1882 Nootropics
Anyone here ever tried any nootropics or 'smart drugs' out?

I've ordered 500g of Piracetam and I'm really excited to find out how much it will improve my concentration. Judging by experiences I've read online, it seems legit, and really useful.

Also, I hear it increases the effects of weed and MDMA.

The antidepressant I'm on - mirtazapine - has been speculated to work as a nootropic and though it's never really been tested regards this I think it does have a limited nootropic effect. I'm unsure as to what you actually want, or are expecting; it's much the same as the increased cognition you get on, say, speed, though without the disjointed aspect.

That diagram is also wrong. Wellbutrin is a multiple-reuptake inhibitor, not an NRI. Phentermine is closer related to SSRIs than the classical stimulants, I have no idea why SSRIs and SNRIs are overlapping with atypical antipsychotics.. Stupid chart.

Yep. Piracetam is great. Ordered some to get on the ball for my exams. Works well. Also gives a cool kinda floaty feeling for the first few days you take it (but this doesn't interfere negatively with work and things). And since I wasn't blazing at the time I was taking it, I can't really tell you how it affects that. Though the first smoke once I finished taking it was amazing (combination of tolerance break and the Piracetam, I'd imagine.)

get some capsules, put 800mg in each one. You should get hold of some choline too, really; it's recommended as a supplement, especially if you get headaches - add about 250mg to your capsules.

I've read a lot that there's no harm in taking a large beginning dose of anything from 4-6g - it's not harmful enough for this to be a big deal, and it makes short term instant results which will give you an idea of what it's like. After that, 2g every 8 hours seems about the average dose!

I've been on it for over a week now and I can definetly say it's worth it. Get some choline though for the love of god. I decided to try it with weed yesterday and didn't take enough choline. It was great for a while, the walls felt like they were furry and my gf said her brain tingled, but after a while I got a headache and didn't weant to move. It was still nice, but the headache just made me want to lie down and minimise sensory input (genuinly thought that at the time, the clear headedness is amazing).

Hey this is Rowesk from Enhanced Minds.
Just letting people know that we do still have piracetam in stock, but not the 0.5kg pots we sell it in. If you guys want some though, I can send it out to you in zip-loc baggies, and because of the inconvenience, I'll knock £2 off. Shoot me an email through the site if you're interested.

And the -racetams included in the student sampler are much more potent than pira. This translates to a higher price, but the effects can be felt from the first dose. :)

Piracetam and Idebenone are two very different compounds, which do very different things..
Idebenone is more of an antioxidant than a nootropic, and it's effects on improving Alzheimer's disease [a classic test for mind-enhancement] is sporadic at best. Piracetam, whilst not the strongest nootropic out there, is clinically proven to improve cognition in otherwise healthy individuals.

I should be getting some nefiracetam sometime in the near future [hopefully before the end of the month]. It's *FAR* more powerful than even pramiracetam and there's a few trials on PubMed that show it to have long-term effects on cognition.

True, but that's not the only pathway piracetam acts upon. It upregulates several types of acetylcholine receptors [ACh is the main neurotransmitter involved in working memory] and increases the brain's oxygen consumption by increasing ATP turnover.
Comparing piracetam and idebenone because they both have an effect on NGF is like comparing plaited nasal hair and an open fondness for anime porn because they both turn women away [neither of which I have any experience with, I might add]. It makes sense to draw comparisons, but not to generalize and say one is stronger than the other. At increasing NGF sure, but as a cognitive enhancer, nope..

"Does this gear encourage new patterns of thought, more complex renditions of extant patterns of thought, or, for example, a higher thought-rate?"

Yes to all three.
Many nootropics [noots/noops] cause an increase in inter-neuronal or synaptic placticity, allowing them to release the neurotransmitters they need across the synapse more quickly and potently, or vary the distance between them, speeding up thought. Aniracetam, for example, initiates growth of more fibres across the corpus callosum, increasing the working relationship between the left and right side of the brain. This increases not only creativity, but verbal fluency and motor skills too - a 'side-effect' that is somewhat permanent. Speaking of permanent, nefiracetam has been shown to increase the complexity of thought in rat and mouse studies, for a long time after administration. Obviously that doesn't perfectly translate to humans, but it's as close as they could get it - and nefi is safe, in Stage II clinical trials as we speak.

"Does it change you regarding your mental habits, as it were, or merely accelerate them? "

I wouldn't say they completely change the habits you've taken a lifetime to form, but it can add weight to other patterns of thought through physiology, e.g. ani increases creativity, reduces anxiety and increases memory encoding and retrieval. Such things may not be able to change the fundamental way you think, but will certainly influence it.

"What evidence do you have that the drugs make you more intelligent? How would you know"

Some of these drugs have been studied for four decades *because* they improve cognition. Just search PubMed for 'piracetam'. The 'litmus test' for drugs increasing cognitive skills seems to be how they perform alleviating Alzheimer's, since it's a disease involving poor memory function.
Memory recall and verbal fluency seems to be the thing most people notice first when on the stronger racetams. I guess if you wanted to test it out for yourself, you could try an IQ test beforehand, and one after a week/few days on the noops, but if you're not stimulating your brain with problems and work, you won't get the best results - similar to how muscles won't grow well/significantly without the stimulus of lifting weights, your brain won't benefit much from just taking the drugs and sitting in a chair, watching tv all day long.

I'm modifying this response. I still had loads lying around after I stopped taking it before, I've been having trouble getting work finished lately and this thread made me think I may as well give it a crack once again.

It's been about a week and a half now, and it's impossible to deny that I'm getting more work done. I don't feel "smarter" but I do feel more able to concentrate and a bit more clear headed while working. My mind had previously been wandering all over the place and getting easily fatigued, and it's a pleasant surprise to find that not happening in the last couple of days.

As an aside, I also feel pleasantly sensitive to light and am seeing colours quite vividly in the same way I have felt on lots of recreational drugs before. A mild but absolutely noticeable difference.

I decided I really didn't like pirecetam after all. Every time I took it resulted in large amounts of agitation and anxiety - and no sleep at all - when I started getting chest pains three days in I dropped it straight away.

I have quite interesting and perhaps slightly unique head chemistry to begin with - I react slightly differently to many recreational drugs and if there is a rare and bizarre side-effect to psych medication, I WILL be the one that gets it - so perhaps this is why. I think if I had started on a much lower dose it may have been more tolerable to start with; as it is I will accept that this one is not for me.

My idiot boyfriend has been put off somewhat by taking quite a large amount and forgetting where I left the choline.

Is anyone else able to comment on pirecetam?
I like the sound of it if it aids concentration and is safe.

I keep reading people claiming it has no effect though...

I'm leaning towards that train of thought now. I'm around 8-10g a day at the moment and I can't notice anything consistently better than usual.
I am working more but that's because I left my 3000 word essay til the day before the deadline. Probably has little to do with the piracetam.

I'm on Aniracetam and find it makes a noticable difference.
I don't believe it to be a placebo effect, so whether it is or not, to me, is a moot point.

Still taking the stuff and I'm getting the benefits you would hope for. I just finished an exam which I studied basically non-stop for from 10PM last night until midday today, then a three hour exam and I still feel fine, not mentally drained at all.

I strongly doubt it's a placebo for me, given that I thought it was bollocks and would in no way work.

Yeah. I've tried piracetam, aniracetam and pramiracetam. Piracetams effects are barely noticable conciously but my long-term behaviour continued to improve while on it. After switching to others there's a noticable difference in ease of thought after a dose. I presume my general behaviour is also still affected.

I think I must agree on the lack of short term effects but increase in performance over time, although since it's not that obvious, I may just be noticing particlarly witty things more often and just be placeboing. I think it did overall help me with my exam though.
