I come here seeking recommendations of similar artists. I don't even know what genre this might best be categorised as, which is partly why I ask you. His work is massively varied too so probably fits more than one description, but I like it all.
You may assume that my knowledge of electronic music is next to zero - I am hoping this thread will cure my life long neglect and misunderstanding of the art.

You might not like all of them, but they're all either mellow, funky or whatever. I found Daedelus off of the Ninja Cuts mix CD; You Don't Know: Ninja Cuts.
Alot of these are on the Ninja Cuts label too. Also have a look into the SolidSteel podcast, always some good stuff on there.
Go for it man, blow my mind, please. I really want to 'get' the finer points of electronic music, as I have a head full of synth sounds I am incapable of putting to good use currently.
http://www.last.fm/user/no_friends Loads of dubstep, bits and bobs of hardcore, rock, metal, mindfuck stuff, hip hop, rap.
I'm a sucker for any kind of music and end up going on various sprees of acquiring different stuff.
Just do what I do, find something you like - look it up on last.fm then acquire all the related artists and you're away.
Then start looking into who else is on the record label. Finding personal mixes on blogs, new individual tracks on there.
I've got a load more stuff in my car that isn't scrobbled too much in my last.fm account - but its alot more dubstep and hip hop related - more upbeat trip hop, some drum and bass and a load of chill out stuff.
With my first list though, listen to all of that and you'll be able to recognise any backing music in most TV shows or adverts :P
>>4007 You're a man after my own heart.
To OP, not all of these are so hugely similar to Daedelus but are possibly also worth a try:
Madlib
Blockhead
Coldcut
Air
The Herbaliser
Morcheeba
Fourtet
Funky Porcini
Neotropic
Hedfunk
Also, if you like enough of my and the other anon's lists I recommend checking out the Ninja Tune label
>>3997 I'd call it either Abstract Hip Hop or Glitch Hop and TBH a huge portion of the recommendations in this thread have IMHO been pretty mainstream and uninspired at best.
