If anyone's curious why the Chinese "god" is Cthulhu, my theory is that as Lovecraft was trying to create a non-supernatural, pantheon of alien super-science gods in his writing (at least in his later works, he even retconned a lot of his earlier stuff with that in mind) and China is an atheist state, that seems to make sense as an explanation. Not a perfect explanation, but if anyone has a better one I'd love to hear it.

And the Lovecraftian pantheon are newly invented Gods, maybe symbolic of the way Communist China tried to abolish religion and China's old superstitions.

Cthulhu's basically a anthropomorphic squid as well, and them asians love their squids.

Bump to get a spoiler image off the visible page.
I posted this comic as my girlfriend and I were discussing it, but I can't remember why. I can't decide if I like the art style or think it's incredibly lazy (it seems to be paint-over photographs and the photoshop "cutout" filter for the backgrounds).

This is probably the best use of Marvel characters I've ever read.

It does seem that way doesn't it. Although I guess the medium maybe attracts the sorts of people who might have fringe interests anyway? We do seem to produce the best comics writers regardless though.

I enjoy it for it's unusual look at the psyche's of the various Batman characters. It takes the premise of Killing Joke a lot further. Plus Dave McKean's artwork is fantastic. I'd post his magnum opus "Cages" but it's 450-odd pages.

Actually just had a look and it's 32 issues so might be a bit of a hassle for you to stick up even if you did have it. Otherwise would be happy to read any other Moore bits(maybe not watchmen just coz I've read it a few times) you might have. Or any other Ellis or Morrison stuff.

"Mid-21st century America doesn't have much to offer Dana Stevens, but there's plenty for her to live for inside Warriors of Jarvath, the world's most popular full-immersion online game. In the real world, she's a tamale delivery girl who still lives with her mom, but inside the game she's an elite assassin. When she gets the drop on King Heremoth, a celebrity non-player character, she thinks she's finally got a shot at fame. But when she slays Queen Fendra, the King's reaction is disconcertingly realistic. Something's amiss in Jarvath, and the effects may reverberate well beyond the boundaries of the game."
