Valve announced today it will bring Steam, Valve's gaming service, and Source, Valve's gaming engine, to the Mac.

Fuck yeah. I might finally get around to buying TF2, as so far I have been too lazy to bother with bootcamping to play games.

I'd imagine this will encourage further Mac game development. This is a good sign.

I will be able to play the source games I already own, right?

Yes, the ones you already own that are the source engine will be free to download for mac, as you already own them for pc.

That is my understanding anyway..

Yup. From: http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=3578

Q: I own TF2 on the PC. Do I have to buy it again on the Mac?
A: No. If you own TF2 on the PC, you own TF2 on the Mac (and vice versa). You don't have to buy the game twice. In addition, the Steam Cloud will automatically propagate your configuration settings and custom sprays to your Mac for you.

Q: Is it just some crappy emulated version of TF2?
A: No! Also: How dare you! Mac users aren't getting a crappy emulated version of the game. TF2 will run natively on OSX, like an actual big boy game for adults.

Q: Hmm, that all sounds pretty good. But I'll bet I can't play with my friends who own Macs if I'm on my PC.
A: Mac and PC users will all play together, on the same servers. We're not creating two separate universes. We're all going to be one big, happy family with guns locked in a bloody, never-ending struggle for cap points.

Oh, and in case it wasn't clear already. The source games are also being ported to Mac.

Bumping this thread just to declare that Steam sales are great. I'd never bought anything on Steam before September 09 because I was clinging to the idea that if I don't have the box I don't actually own it, but the holiday sales were too cheap to pass up. Now I just have to find the time to play all of this.

Garry's Mod
Left 4 Dead
Counter Strike: Source
Day of Defeat: Source
Grand Theft Auto IV
Battlefield 2
Sam and Max Seasons One and Two
The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition
Deus Ex: Invisible War
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Evil Genius
Just Cause
Psychonauts
Trine
Mount and Blade
Majesty 2
Sniper Elite
Indie Game Pack (Altitude, Bob Came In Pieces, Bullet Candy, Galcon Fusion, GridRunner Revolution, Space Giraffe, Super Laser Racer)

For just £78.39. You could buy two copies of Modern Warfare 2 and my haul would still cost less.

Frankly I jumped at Steam the second I could. I am forever losing disks, but now I can play games that would have disappeared into some other realm years ago along with coat buttons, single socks, and guitar picks.

I recently reinstalled Steam, but now none of my games will load (I only have the Orange Box and Garry's Mod, not too interested in anything else). Been on the Steam help forums, but nothing seems to do it. Dammit, Steam.

Contact steam support? They're usually pretty good about this stuff. I've heard lots of compliments and them going against the usual policies to refund certain people.
