Oh, another problem.
Well, as they say in the article, it is "it's own prototype" in that something on that scale is too expensive to do a trial version of, so it is inevitable it'd burp every now and then.
I do hope they can get it working fully.

Pffft.

Shoddy reporting. Particle accelerators ALWAYS go through an operational phase of 12-18 months and then and engineering/maintenance/repair/upgrade phase of about a year.

It's what you get from having so much delicate and highly strung machinery.

All totally right, just got back from CERN myself, the sheer scale of the operation is unbelivable, they need 100% of the components working in order for it to function, its so sensitive, that the affect of the moon affects the results, it can measure the effect of the moon on a single proton! They even need to take into the account of the slight change in the electricity they get when the tram systems and trains are switched on at 6! They didn't know this but that is how accurate it is, they can notice the tiniest change in their power as it affects the results!

It's a pity that working in the CERN hasn't affected your grammar.

Any interesting pictures from there?

Haha, I admire your audacity at attempting to get away with a grammar post in a board no-one visits.

>Then in November 2009, it emerged that further problems had been caused by a small piece of baguette dropped by a passing bird which landed in a piece of equipment on the surface above the accelerator ring.

This gave me a chuckle.

I think that's kind of preposterous. But amusing.

Some of the scientists even theorised that it was bread sent back from the future to stop the machine from working, to save the future or something.

I have also just got back from CERN. The tour was a bit disappointing really, you could really tell they powered through two tour groups a day. Still, our tour guide had the most French voice I've ever heard and didn't mind me veering off around the place and going into restricted zones while he was talking.
If I didn't have such an awesome time in Geneva itself then I'd regard the whole trip as a waste of money.

Looking at their website it says it's free of charge for a tour, you'll just have to book in advance. It all appears to be a matter of getting in touch with them online and booking for yourself.
It came to £210 each for us lot, but that was just for the coach and the hostel for three days.

Pic related, it's our tour guide.
