PC gone mad. You can't even talk about wanting to kill innocent black men without people getting all uppity and offended by it.

I apologise in advance if the word filters butcher that link.

I don't get it. It's Norn Iron during the Troubles, which wasn't exactly the most diverse place in the world, but he even outright says that it was wrong and realised as much soon after the fact.

I guarantee you that every white man growing up in a hard area has had thoughts like these, or worse. I certainly did. If you're going to try and erase people's achievements when they cop to it, people just won't admit it in future, and the problem will always be there, unaddressed.

I moved to one of its whitest parts in the early 90s. Since then I have made hundreds of thousands of pounds as the faces around me have gotten browner. But I still couldn't afford to go out in some of the more diverse parts just up the road from me.

I don't like the culture changes that come with immigration personally. I'd prefer minimal immigration, and immigration from European or Anglican countries if anything. I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting your area to stay the way it is culturally and ethnically.

I reckon it's one of those things where the negative effects are felt more keenly than the positive effects; a bit like investing where there's a much stronger emotional response to incurring a [paper] loss compared with the equivalent gain.

I guess it doesn't help that the negative effects are more tangible than the positive ones, particularly lower down the social scale. For example, if you go round my mother-in-law's way then your perception of immigrants will be tainted by the Lithuanians hanging around drinking all day and smashing bottles, the Arabs dealing drugs and having underage schoolgirls around at their place until the early hours of the morning, the Polish children that look like Dobby from Harry Potter and act like little hooligans or the Africans that leave rubbish absolutely everywhere.

It doesn't matter that there's plenty of chavs around who do exactly the same because they're not even people in your eyes and you've spent your entire life tuning them out. When immigrants do it they're far more perceptible. It also doesn't matter that there's far more immigrants in work and being net contributors because you don't actually see these people in your day to day life.

Total publicity story if you ask me. Just look at the reporter, who in there right mind would tell someone like that you once had a racist thought? The plan even nearly came undone as she seems to understand where he's coming from in dealing with the trauma of a rape (where he only knew it was a black lad) but she still had to put in all this fluff.

>And yet, Britain's population has never been more ethnically diverse than nowadays, while per capita crime rates the last few years have been plummeting compared to 20 years ago.

Seems like it was falling faster between 99 and 02 to be honest with you. I feel justified in making you feel old because you're being just another shrill ideologue using the great crime collapse to justify whatever bullshit.

I'm the same. Even if we completely closed the borders tomorrow we've still undertaken one of the greatest experiments in history in terms of a peaceful population transfer and it's hardly something that can be reversed or has ever been evenly distributed.

Of course, instead we're just going to get higher levels because we need to paper over the cracks in our own system like the NHS being in a death-spiral of poor working conditions and our agricultural industry being absolutely fucked. Might as well wish for the tide to stop coming in if we're talking about the country investing in the people and businesses already here rather than exploit the inflow of labour.

Change happens regardless. I'm in the south west, not many foreigners around, grew up in a small village. The roads are now packed with cars and it's busy as fuck everywhere because they just keep building houses on every green space they can, but fail to increase any infrastructure. No new schools, no new health centres, roads are still tiny. So now everyone's coming down from up north to get their nice houses in the countryside and by the sea while the rest of us that live here can barely afford any of the new builds. It isn't the place I grew up in and I no longer see a life for myself here.

Who are these people that think everything can stay the same? The world is in a constant state of change, no where is frozen in time.

Nonsense. Your culture has remained static since 1066. I'm not from the south west but I can tell you that my ancestors swore an undying oath of loyalty to whichever of William the Bastard's drinking buddies was put in charge of my part of the country after Hastings (RIP. Never Forget). And my family have quite happily eaten, slept and breathed whatever his descendants have told us to eat, sleep or breathe ever since.

I don't think it's ever possible to stop change in the world, not of this scale. If anything, there will be more migrants in the future because of how much we have screwed ourselves. There's more of us in the world, there's more frequent occurrences of natural disasters and summers are only going to get hotter. People will be displaced, places will become unlivable and we'll need to be smarter with our resources. We've been living in a golden age where we could make and get pretty much anything we wanted and I think we're shifting out of that now and that's something people need to accept.

Ultimately I think all we can ever do as a species is what we've always done and what I hope we can continue to do, and that's to simply adapt.

A lot of the "problems" of immigration are just poor urban planning. The green belt and the failure to invest in new towns has created the feeling that Britain is full up - our country is mostly empty, you're just not allowed to build on the empty bits. People take the piss out of Milton Keynes, but it's a really nice place to live in many respects. We could solve most of our problems with a dozen or so well-planned new towns.

Do people really race mix in this country? As far as I'm aware the Desi folk are quite racist and don't encourage it. I don't know about black people but the only time I see Orientals race mixing is when I go to National Trust properties and there's really geeky looking white men with pubey hair wearing jumpers their mum has bought for them holding hands with the ugliest slit-eyed women imaginable.

I'm white and had a black girlfriend. My housemates took the piss out of me when I came over with this massive black woman, which wasn't very nice.

Also where I live there are a lot of Chinese so often see Chinese girls with white guys (very rare to see white girls with Chinese guys though).

Don't often see Indians/laplanderstanis/Arabs etc dating outside of their race. Maybe the whole honour killing element stops that.

The new town is fairly bland and characterless, but it's also really easy to live in. The house prices are reasonable, there are loads of good jobs, it's easy to get around, the transport links are excellent and there are decent amenities. You're an hour on the train from London and an hour and a half from Birmingham, you never worry about parking and there are hundreds of miles of cycle paths and linear parks.

It feels weird because of the grid system and the proliferation of modernist architecture, but it's overwhelmingly pleasant once you've got used to it. The planners designed it as a nice place to live and they largely succeeded in that aim. It's the fastest-growing conurbation in the UK for good reason.

On a more intangible level, it was intended to be a city for the future and it still is. It's the test site for 5G mobile phone networks, self-driving cars and autonomous delivery robots. It doesn't have heritage, which is why some people hate it but is also a reason for its success. MK is relentlessly, unapologetically modern. It isn't utopia, but it is a very good model for how we can build healthy, prosperous conurbations from scratch.

I grew up in a very white town, then after uni moved to some very diverse cities.

The main thing I want to bitch about here is how all the white people in the cities gush about how diversity and cultural mixing is awesome, but then all live together in the nice white people areas and drive through the brown people areas as quickly as possible.

I also live in a nice white person area, because I am a nice white person. The only brown people here are the ones that don't really follow their weird old religions and have taken up middle class hobbies like drinking wine and jogging. Mostly they no longer put half a tin of cumin in their curry every night, so they don't have the brown person smell, either!
