Pork faggots were the main meat of this meal. I brought them because of the name, but they didn't have any redeeming values. They tasted soggy and tasteless.
Also that was my first attempt at original and non-recipe based cooking. Not happy with it.
Anyone here cook with faggots?

I can see where you were going with this. Americans usually serve meat-balls with spaghetti like that.

I would always start a pasta sauce like that by frying off some chopped onions, when they're "clear" add a small amount of garlic, maybe a tablespoon of tomato puree and then a tin of plum tomatoes - then I would add whatever meat you're using. Your sauce doesn't look saucy enough!

Gravy taste doesn't really work with pasta. I'd have done them with some potatoes and veg instead.

Everyone has cooked something awful like this at some point. It's a learning experience.

What happened to those faggots?

They should be served whole I reckon. I wouldn't have them with pasta either - you'd be better of with large chips or potato wedges.

I cook with faggots a fair bit, because they constitute a good fistful of meat and are delish. I don't usually mush them or incorporate them into other stuff so much - they're usually more standalone than that.

A mate of mine cooked me pork faggots last week - my first faggot experience. A true winter warmer served with potato wedges and a side of cauliflower cheese - delicious.

Faggots can only be eaten with peas; hence the phrase, 'faggots and peas'.

Indeed. Marrowfat processed peas at that, not those poncy petit pois.

What are they like? They sell them at the chip shop, but I want to know what I'm in for before shelling out the four pounds ninety for the meal.

When I cook my dinner today I shall do a /nom/ sign made out of faggots. Hopefully Purple will add it.

Where do you live that porkfaggots are nearly a fiver?

For faggots and chips, £4.90 seems about right - here that would mean faggots sell for about the price of cod.

Same here. Faggots alone for a fiver would be quite steep (but then, the local chippy (and yes, there is only one) doesn't sell them) would seem quite steep. But a small F&C comes in at £3.90 (and that really means "small") while a fish and large (i.e. decent) sized chips is £5.10. Sossidge and Chips I've always avoided (my emergency pissed meal consists of chicken doner) would be in the £5 ball park.

So… just the faggots for a fiver is a rip-off. Get some chips with that and it sounds about right.

That's a good deal you're getting there. Sure beats a McDonalds or Burger King meal for the same price.

Indeed, I'm not even sure you could get a full meal deal for £4.90 at BK, and though you can at McDonalds, they're not nearly as amusingly named, apart from the McTwatsack and chips of course.

I've just remembered about a pie made by "Mad O'Rourkes Pie Factory" called a Barrymore Pie "Famous Faggot Pie" which is 2 faggots floating in a pool of gravy with potatoes.

Not relevant for a post-booze munchie-fighter, but: at service stations at least (the only fast food chain where I live is a Subway, so I don't come past a BK often), BK had some odd "snack" deal on for a cheeseburger, small chips and a small drink for £1.99. Double that for a useful meal, and you're still under £4.

Seemed like a one-off promotion though.

I'd still take the chips, faggots, gravy and mushy peas over a BK.
