>A Kent MP has apologised for being drunk in the House of Commons and missing a vote on the Budget.

Mark Reckless said he did not feel it was appropriate to take part in the vote in the early hours of Wednesday because of the amount he had drunk.

His only problem was being too honest. The rest would have either not bothered to turn up at all or voted anyway and kept quiet about it.

We need more boozed out members of the commons. Who knows, it might actually cause them to make more sane decisions.

I think it would take something harder or more mind-altering than that, but it would be a start.

On the one hand, realising what you can't or shouldn't do when drunk while drunk is a very valuable skill and the decision not to vote was a good one, just like taking a cab instead of driving yourself home in the same situation would be. The context, however, makes a difference: while he handled his drink admirably, he perhaps shouldn't have been drinking in the first place.

I realise that he could've gone on a bender in a pub instead of attending and taken none of the current flack, but still.

Quite right, sir. Drunk MPs are a proud tradition of our country. Whatever would we have done without winsome old Winnie?

Made favourable peace with Germany, retained our empire and way of life, free from American mass media and cultural Marxists subverting and perverting everything we hold dear?

To be fair it probably would have been an alliance with Germany, given the way Hitler constantly had wet dreams about an anglo-german alliance.

I doubt we'd be up for that. The deal on the table, I seem to recall, was to withdraw from France, having them pay minor indemnities (probably the loss of Alsace-Lorraine) and leaving the Krauts to have a bash at the dirty Bolshies.

Not a chance. Read Mein Kampf and other stuff he said/wrote. He wanted an alliance with us almost as bad as he wanted all the jews dead.

i'd trust an idealogue over an opportunist any day: they're consistent.

>>25205 makes a good point, actually. without the european infighting of ww2, europe could still be the world's power base. we tend to think that winning wars is the best possible outcome. OTOH, its usually better not to fight at all. See Switzerland for a favourable WW2 outcome.

What utter piffle.

I strongly suspect outright trolling here.
