Now even I am not sure if this is a good idea but it is at least worth discussing.
On some of the quieter boards it might be nice if there was an option to have email notifications for replies to threads/posts that you have made. It could potentially make for more active boards because I would imagine that some people stop checking threads/boards after a few days without a reply.
I don't know much about coding but I know that it would be possible to implement this, albeit a potentially laborious task. Exactly how it would work is unclear in my mind. Obviously email addresses would remain private. I also have no idea how much strain on the server this would produce.
There are also the idealogical implications. This is after all an image board and not a forum.
As I said, I'm not certain that it is a good idea but I wonder what the rest of you think.
I can see what you're getting at, but I think it isn't a very good idea at all, for a number of reasons.
Firstly I feel e-mail notifications are extremely irritating. They clog up your inbox with useless information, and are extremely difficult to configure efficiently.
Secondly (and perhaps most importantly) the website and her boards require regular visits. Users shouldn't opt out of involving themselves with the site until somebody has reacted to something they've said - it would be unhealthy for the board in question if people just posted and then waited for somebody to directly reply. That isn't, in my opinion, the ethos of this place or indeed any other collaborative, conversational website.
>>5361 Yes and no. I'm not sure I would want to go down the route of thread subscriptions with email as you describe, but I have often thought it would be nice if you could quickly see which threads you have Originated, regardless of board or which page they're on. I'd worry you would get more phantom bumps from people whose threads were "ignored" or otherwise not answered to their own satisfaction.
I certainly get the idea, but as mentioned, I don't think I'd appreciate emails in that context - I think a similar effect could be achieved by the RSS feeds already in place. If they were promoted a bit more on slower boards, your vision would naturally take place using an existing feature.
