I agree.

>I'm not the kind of guy who pushes the fault to one guy. We are a team and we have to respect that.

That was what Vettel said afterwards. However, I don't quite understand what he is trying to say. He crashed into his team mate but it's the whole teams fault?

Anyway, it was a terribly boring race until this happened. Hamilton did well at the beginning, and the Hamilton/Buton at the end was fun but I nearly fell asleep in the middle.

I thought that was a really weird comment too. As for Button trying the same move in the same place, what was he thinking. I imagine the debrief for both those teams would have been red-hot.

He's obviously not blaming the entire team. Here are three possible interpretations of his words.

1. He continues to blame Webber as he instinctively did immediately after the crash, but didn't want to express this to the media out of loyalty to the team. Very dignified, as he so often is.

2. He saw the footage and recognised it wasn't primarily Mark's fault.

3. The team demanded he not enter into a debate about blame, knowing how the media love to blow any inkling of division out of all proportion.

Unusually, I found the entire race to be very exciting, despite the drivers I support not being at the forefront.

Of primary importance are results. No crash ensued and neither Button nor Hamilton seemed aggrieved afterwards. Exactly what we as fans don't need are drivers feeling content to maintain position.

The controversy erupted after Vettel attempted to pass team-mate and race leader Webber on lap 40. The pair collided, with the Australian going wide and falling to third and Vettel forced to retire. Webber suggested in the aftermath that journalists “dig” a little deeper into the incident and that is exactly what they did.

Asked if there was a reason Vettel suddenly had more pace than him, having followed him so closely for 40 laps, Webber said “Hmm. Maybe.” Asked if there was a reason he had come out of the previous corner a bit slower than in previous laps, Webber said: “Hmm. You guys need to dig more, somewhere else.”

Red Bull might have the best car designer in the form of Adrian Newey, but they seem to also be extremely good at shooting themselves in the foot. Expect more of this I think.

I love that Webber is beating Vettel. Vettel had that aura about him of team-appointed champion, the whole "new Schumi" thing going on, and while Webber has always been decent, and occasionally spectacular in qualifying, you'd have to say he was seen as something of a journeyman. It's a lovely story, and it seems to really be pissing off some of the more obnoxious fans of the sport to boot.

I'm not sure it's fair to say Webber is beating Vettel. Granted this is all part of F1 and I believe Webber has had far more than his fair share of bad luck in previous seasons, but remember Vettel has lost at least two victories he had in the bag through poor reliability.

>Conway suffered numerous injuries, including a broken leg, and had surgery on Sunday night. He is also understood to have back injuries and will require a brace for the next few months. Hunter-Reay walked away with a thumb injury.

A thumb injury? I don't know anything about Indy 500. Why did his car fly around like a kite? Are the cars extremely low weight?

Indy Cars have bigger engines but are much heavier. If you watch the clip carefully, you'll see that he touches wheeles and this forces his car up in the air. The exact same thing can happen in F1 too.

Given that all their driving is round a big boring oval track, this crash is about exciting as Indy gets.

Oh and thumb injuries are very common in race-driving, it happens when you have your hands locked around the spokes of the steering wheel - a big enough jolt such as this on the steering and its easy to break a thumb.

I think the sheer amount of downforce a F1 car generates would stop that kind of height from happening. Seriously do Indy cars have any aerodynamics whatsoever?

Admittedly this was almost 20 years ago, but certainly I think F1 cars could suffer the same fate today.

They will do, of course, but they'll be designed for going roundy-round all day, not for proper circuits. You probably want less downforce in your Indy setup because you're on one massive corner.

I wouldn't mind Hamilton sticking it in the hedge tomorrow. Not very likely, but it'd be nice to see Alonso win. It's also good to see Felipe Baby at Ferrari for another two seasons.
