I'm looking to avoid the festive period here by going abroad somewhere for something different.

Can you recommend anything? I've seen a cycling tour in Morocco but that's in late November rather than over Xmas.

Venice is a magical place to spend Christmas. It's a nightmarish hellscape of loud Americans during summer, but it's a delight when all the tourists have fucked off. Even if you're a staunch atheist, midnight mass at the Basilica di San Marco is quite spectacular. Do check the tide tables and bring your wellies, because things can get really weird at high tide.

Anywhere in the Alps - you get to ski/board, there'll be proper snow (probably) and its slightly quieter than at other times during the season.

Malta or Sicily then - near, cheap, fucking hot.

There's also Egypt, but they hate foreigners at the moment.

Go to the Canaries. Balmy weather all winter long. The lowest temperature that was ever recorded in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was +11°C.

If you can tolerate wrinkly British expats and other sexagenarians.

Sardinia, too? No idea if it's festivity free, but it should be a decent temperature and is lovely. You got any preferred languages, even at crappy schoolboy level?

Corsica has only been part of France for the past 250 years or so. Napoleon only learnt French when he was 10 and spoke with an Italian accent.

I'll look into Sardinia thanks. I'm not too bothered about languages, I'm quite good at picking them up. I did French to Year 9 and German to A Level. If I could survive in Romania, I think I'll be alright.

I've found a package holiday to Malta over Christmas (7 nights), it's £1185. Is this a good deal? It includes:

-Return flights & transfers
-Twin or double room for sole use
-4 guided walks, including ferries
-Tour Leader
-Breakfast daily & four dinners with drinks,Christmas Eve Gala Dinner and lunch on Christmas Day

Flights and accommodation come to about £600 by my calculations. So I guess it's whether the walks, tour leader, transfers and ferries add up to the other £600. I guess it's not that a good deal...

£1200 and you can't even bring a prozzie back to your room to beat up on boxing day? Fucking rip off, m8.

I'll be very disappointed if there isn't a strip joint somewhere on that island called MALTEASERS.

I would wager there’s some crap ex-pat burlesque act going by that name somewhere in Valletta.

Probably some worn out 40 year old who became unemployable in Blackpool and didn't want to be dolescum again.

Ultra endurance athletes peak in their 40's lad, I know blokes in their 50's that do the Bob Graham Round for a bit of a laugh.
