Also a trophy patch for MGS4 was announced last week for anyone who didn't know.
|>>|| No. 13581
I was hoping Kojima couldn't stay away. Easily one of my favourite series of games. Fun, innovative, writing that could be both sincere and silly-bordering-on-batshit. Unfortunately I never played beyond 3. I understand 4 was meant to be the very end, right?
|>>|| No. 13584
Jumped the shark, sadly.
I have low expectations from this.
|>>|| No. 13586
Are they actually holding Kojima at gunpoint by now?
|>>|| No. 13587
Oh what a joke. Each time he brings the series to a natural conclusion he has to dig up its corpse again?
|>>|| No. 13590
What happened was he stopped making MGS games, then since he didn't own the acctual series, they got someone else to make an MGS5 which is set AFTER MGS4. But Kojima thought you cunts are ruining my games! So he took charged and set the game during WW2, so you'll be either playing as The Boss or Big Boss again.

>Konami has denied rumours that Metal Gear Solid 5 was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, calling them fake on its UK Twitter account today.
>Earlier this morning, some Redditors claimed that Konami had announced the fifth instalment in its popular stealth-action series during Comic-Con, posting the above image as proof.
>“Fake or real, we love a bit of speculation!” Konami said on its UK Twitter account later this morning, posting a link to the Reddit thread.
>The company then followed up: “Seriously, just in case the #pinch #salt hashtags weren’t enough — the chap who claims to have set up the fake rumours has been in touch.”
|>>|| No. 13599
>>13598 I enjoyed that, I also find myself agreeing with a previous article about MGS2 being both very good, and tailor made to piss off the fans, the same cunts who laud over MGS4 when it's the worst in the series.
|>>|| No. 13726
It'll be The Boss if it's WW2, she gave birth to Big Boss on the battlefield.
|>>|| No. 13801
Yeah I looked at the VR Theory pages on that website too, and it's made me look at MGS2 in a whole new light. But I don't like being told that I was too stupid to see it. I just thought it was ridiculous just like MGS1 was ridiculous. The first game had clones and robots and psychokinesis and magic ravens and secret agents who hid in cardboard boxes, it's not too difficult to go from accepting that to accepting MGS2.
|>>|| No. 13812
>But I don't like being told that I was too stupid to see it.
People who just didn't see it aren't the ones being called stupid. The ones who attacked the game for being 'nonsensical' and pressured Konami into setting a game after 2009 are the ones being called stupid, because the website owner sees them as the sole reason for the butchering of Hideo's vision.

A trophy patch for MGS4 was announced last week?
|>>|| No. 13828
>>13814 I always liked the over arching plot and the weirdness of it all but I agree that a lot of the specific writing was utter shite.
>>13820 is probably the best example.
Then again there were some fairly good ideas in there, it takes a fair bit of talent to make a tyrannical elite sound like the voice of reason.
|>>|| No. 13849
Patch has been out of a while.
No install between acts is glorious. Trophies are alright too.
|>>|| No. 13865
>>13812 Good old fanboy bashing aside (from the game itself no less), I dislike the amount of tenuous assumptions and claims that person makes in order to fit his own theory.
Either he's partially wrong and the game is (somewhat) more literal than he thinks it is, or he's completely right and it's an unreasonably obscure experiment to see if people will "get it" despite countless reasons ensuring they don't. It's unrealistic to think most people will put in the time or effort to search for subtext in every inch of media they consume and come to the supposed "right" conclusion. Add to that the hype, fanboyism, buyer's remorse and other emotional investment in the franchise and it's guaranteed that a hidden subtext requiring people to say "this is stupid" isn't going to get very far with your average paying customer.
Either way it's a fascinating topic, and his observations about the series and Kojima are fascinating.

I had a 100% completion savegame from a while back, It's not compatible with the trophies. I acheived those fair and square, I figured I'd have to play through it once to get all the story ones and then I'd get the completion ones at the end when it awards you the emblems like all the emblems and all the guns and Ipod tracks.
There are a few that require doing things in game like making a soldier dance, searching a soldier that would need to be earned, but I'm a bit annoyed all my hard work is essentially useless. 10 playthroughs pissed down the drain...
|>>|| No. 13935
I get a lot of pleasure from beating a game and 100%ing it, but only if it's a good game and I enjoy it. Might as well 100% if you're already at 80%. My point is I don't understand why my ingame progress has been invalidated because I did it before they released the patch.
I invested a lot of time into it. If there is trophies to be had, then I feel I deserve them without having to do it all again. I will though, because I enjoy the challenge, but I wanted to have a bit of a gripe about nonetheless.
Please, don't feel the need to take issue with everything you see on the internet. Your life will be much happier if you drop the pre-tense.

He typed nine words. Word says you typed 129. Who's taking issue with whom?
|>>|| No. 13967
I don't think that word count matters very much in deciding who's taking issue with whom.

A bit of extra gameplay on the end here.
I was avoiding watching anything because I only own a 360 but apparently it isn't PS3 exclusive this time so I can get excited. Fucking Joan Baez and Metal Gear, I was sold on that alone. This has revived my hopes for the series, back to stealth (hopefully), vehicles, open world, different countries, Les Enfant Terrible? Young Raiden? BIG BOSS! Unbelievably high hopes.
|>>|| No. 14019
Wow is all I can say. The heli call at the end is a little strange to me though, one minute you're sneaking around, the next you're calling in a massive chopper to pick you up. Isn't that counter-intuitive?
|>>|| No. 14022
You can't accuse MGS of melodrama when that's been a hallmark. It's the gameplay that matters.
|>>|| No. 14023
I haven't played MGS since MGS3 but I really don't like 2 and 3 anywhere near as much as I loved 1. Interest has faded for me.

If the conspiracies are to be believed, that's because Kojima deliberately made them bad.
|>>|| No. 14025
I'm not sure about deliberately made them bad. They were still fantastic games with significant improvements to mechanics, outrageous characters, some nice narratives on the nature of war and human culture, etc. but there were definitely also self-conscious commentaries inside the games about how Kojima did not actually really want to make so many sequels.
|>>|| No. 14026
Lads you're forgetting the insane amount of details gone into the games.
I nearly turned into an autist during MGS 2, when you had to collect the dogtags of EVERY soldier on EVERY difficulty level, including European Extreme!
There were small details that blew my mind, eg: holding up a soldier from behind will make him hold his hands up indefinitely - as opposed to the front where he knows your position. That just pops into mind now.
|>>|| No. 16077
Bad, bad idea.
Hayter IS Snake, I don't see how they can expect this news to be taken lightly.

>There were small details that blew my mind, eg: holding up a soldier from behind will make him hold his hands up indefinitely - as opposed to the front where he knows your position. That just pops into mind now.
I'm 100% sure there aren't as many of these 'small details' as you think there are.
I might be a dullard, but that's just my opinion.
|>>|| No. 16080
Perhaps it will be like with Hitman Absolution, where fan demand causes the developers to bring the original VA back.
Having said that, I sort of understand Kojima's reasoning for the change. He says the new game tackles some serious issues, so he wants a more subdued performance.
|>>|| No. 16081
Not this time. You can't just turn around and say no to Kiefer Sutherland.
|>>|| No. 16084
It's like making Raiden the main playable character - bad fucking idea.
Kojima is a cunt

I suspect this is the big guy saying "Look, I really don't want to make these sequels, so I'm going to keep ruining them until you stop buying them." It isn't going to work.

An interesting theory on what's really happening with Sutherland.

Extended trailer for MGSV
It's got pretty dark.
|>>|| No. 16133
I don't know how to feel about hyper-realistic scenes of child soldiers and torture being combined with Kojima's camp mecha/spy fantasies.
Don't get me wrong, he's made admirable stabs at big themes in the past, but usually the element of real' war has been a step removed in his games. More like a backdrop. Here it seems that it's far more direct.
|>>|| No. 16134
Well he did say this could be the game that means he has to leave the industry. He was not joking around.
The bit where they had to remove a package/bomb out of Paz's stomach and the part where they torture Quiet to the point where her legs were quivering were particularly powerful.
One interesting thing to note is that Kaz has completely changed where he'll probably refer to himself and Master McDonell Miller because Kazuhira means peace in Japanese and he's torturing pretty much everyone.
|>>|| No. 16155
I'm glad they got Donna Burke to do another theme for MGS.
|>>|| No. 16221
Didn't Sniper Wolf grow up at this point in the chronology?
Excuse me if it seems obvious but I bet she'll be a supporting character, if not mild love interest.
|>>|| No. 16223
Not above a bit of noncing wasn't Are Snake.
Missed oppertunity to tie it together I reckon, it seems like the series is getting waaaay bloated with characters that are the same but kinda not as other, more iconic characters. With every sequel it waters down the pool of originality this series had by introducing these wierd knock-offs of other characters from the older games.
I know Kojima doesn't LIKE making sequel after sequel and being forced to give the fans more and better of what they love. But maybe the little slanty eyed faggot should grow some bollocks and say no if he doesn't want to, instead of sabotaging everything and trying to piss us off. He's clearly still got plenty of ideas, so why not put them in a new IP if he's so tired of MGS.
He can't even complain that the execs force him, because I bet the cunt would make over a million dollars by tomorrow if he went on Kickstarter with a new game about cyberpunk ninjas or whatever.

From the man himself: "it's my series, I can ruin it if I want to". You seem to think that Kojima owns the IP and can stop making them if he wants to. Konami own the IP and they'd replace him without a seconds hesitation. Frankly, he doesn't want anybody murdering his shambling corpse of a baby except himself. Oh and also he got serious death threats when he didn't want to make "4".
I hope that he is sabotaging on purpose to piss people like you off, you deserve it. I mean, you're calling him a "cunt" and a "slanty eyed faggot" for no other reason than you're a spoiled, entitled cunt. He doesn't owe you an amazing game stuffed full of meaning and wisdom. He tried that with "2" and because most people are fucking brain-dead they took it all at face value and nearly destroyed his reputation.
|>>|| No. 16230
No, I simply believe that as an artist, and a creator, he should be bettering himself. Like a musician who is in a shitty band, the noble thing to do would be to leave and do their own thing, not stick around releasing terrible albums just because.
>Frankly, he doesn't want anybody murdering his shambling corpse of a baby except himself
What, so he's just narccicistic?
I don't think he owes me anything. I haven't even played a metal gear game since about 2005. But looking at what he has done with the series, I think the guy really needs to pull his head out of his arse.
He's a game designer, not Marcel fucking Duchamp.
|>>|| No. 16231
>Frankly, he doesn't want anybody murdering his shambling corpse of a baby except himself
Bit harsh on the MGS franchise there, however you make a valid point. Let's not forget, he only made 'Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake' after a chance meeting with the guy responsible for *shudder* 'Snake's Revenge'
|>>|| No. 16232
When I saw part 1 of this for the first time, I couldn't stop laughing because it covered EVERYTHING in MGS that me and my stepbrother used to take the piss out of when the game first came out
|>>|| No. 16234
I do wonder if perhaps Kojima could ever strike a deal that he'd direct 'one last game' on the basis that it contractually has to be the last of the main series ever made.
He'd probably need some kind of leverage to make that happen. Even so, it's not hard to imagine a game where there are Snake impostors, and you have to find the real Snake, who says "DO NOT LISTEN TO THOSE THAT LOOK LIKE ME" etc.
|>>|| No. 16236

That analogy is shit and you're a cuntflap.
|>>|| No. 16237
Of course he'd need leverage, given that, as has been said, Konami can get anyone else to carry on with the MGS cash cow if he leaves.
|>>|| No. 16238
Not really. Takes a lot of people to make a game. Look at any band that has gone to shit because their label wants them to do commercially succesful material.
If Konami own the rights to the game then he can't very well say IT'S MY GAME with any sort of legitimacy can he?

TTS was a lot better than MGS. It's just a fanboy meme to complain about it.
|>>|| No. 16246
>Because remaking MGS1 was such a good idea before.
You mean the Gamecube one? It got pretty god reviews and I know a couple of people who really liked it. What was your problem with it?
|>>|| No. 16248
I played both and favor the original, though TS told the same story, it also added a ton of unnecessary EPIC ACTION sequences, backflips, explosions etc.
|>>|| No. 16249
TTS was also far too easy as they implemented MGS2 first person view.
The remake needs to be made from scratch this time around so all the features added on since then don't make the game too easy.
|>>|| No. 16250
It's a wanker meme to say that it wasn't. TTS was to MGS as Exterminating Angels was to Scary Movie.
|>>|| No. 16255
Replaying the original, it is very... Minimalistic, to say the least.
It has all these great gameplay mechanics and only requires to use a lot of them maybe once or twice; and there are only about 8 or 9 rooms you have to do any sneaking in; the others are static obstacles that you quickly learn to avoid and thanks to backtracking you learn the fast, easy routes through most of the areas. The rest of the game is taken up by running up and down stairs or ladders and throwing chaff grenades at cameras.
Oh, and cutscenes, of course.
A remake would have to considerably flesh out the setting and mechanics; although it's probably a good idea to keep it oriented towards the faster, more arcadey feel true to it's place as essentially the third part of the Solid Snake "trilogy".
|>>|| No. 16264
Denies MGS remake. Bad translator. Apologuies for English/ Shitfaced beyond measure

What a disappointment. I don't know why I was expecting a hollywood actor to do a better job than Hayter. He isn't Sutherland voicing Snake, it's Snake voicing Sutherland.

Game has leaked
Game has got super dark. Like a censor's wet dream due to the content of the tapes. The tapes are up on youtube but I won't bother posting it as they get deleted very quickly.
Spoilers ahoy for the tapes
Paz gets raped a lot while Chico watches and they put two bombs in her. One in her stomach and one somewhere else which is highly likely to be her vagina or anus as you hear it after they stitch up her stomach. I shit you not, I was quite sceptical until I heard it
Kojima really wasn't fucking around when he said MGS5 would be the most controversial game he's ever made.
|>>|| No. 18336
I like to hope that it's happened because in the next few games Big Boss will meet Solid Snake and they can't have the same voice.
|>>|| No. 18337
By original I assume you mean MGS and not the 2D Metal Gears? Really I wouldn't be surprised if the Shadow Moses level in MGS4 is as close as we'll get to a remake, not that I'd complain. I still haven't played the HD remakes of MGS2/3/Peace Walker, they worth it given I played the first two to death already and got bored of PW?
|>>|| No. 18338
I thought the remake of Peace Walker was worthwhile. The original was hampered by being a console game done on a portable, which is never the best. I found it much more playable on a big screen.
It's kind of unfortunate that MGS 5 appears to rely on players being familiar with the plot of such a poor selling game too.
|>>|| No. 18339
So I take it you missed the bit where they explain that Solid is clone of big boss?
|>>|| No. 18340
>He isn't Sutherland voicing Snake, it's Snake voicing Sutherland.
Agreed, but there is hope. Here's a video I found where someone has pasted the same quote read by Hayter. It's not an entirely fair comparison, as it's of a lower sound quality and was acted in a different context, but it is fun to watch:
It should be noted that Hayter doesn't actually sound like Snake when speaking naturally, Snake is very much a character. The guttural, low, brooding sound is entirely put on, and Sutherland has his own version of that. To me it actually sounds more like a problem of character and articulation, rather than tone. Hayter's Snake sounds confident, a bit smoother, more like a spy. Sutherland's seems a bit less cold, more emotional.
This is the direction Kojima has stated he wants to move in, it's just a shame he had to switch to an actor that's already established elsewhere to do it. Snake is probably going to feel a bit like a sock puppet with Sutherland behind it for quite some time. What could have made the transition smoother is for Sutherland to show he can at least take on the accent and attitude of Hayter's Snake if need be, and let the newer character shine through the rest of the time.
|>>|| No. 18352
>Sutherland's seems a bit less cold, more emotional
It helps that he doesn't seem to be under the impression that "old" and "gargling sand" are the same thing.
|>>|| No. 18355
No, but you may have missed the bit where they are about 40 years of age apart from each other and need to have different voices. Nobody has the same voice all their life, it subtly changes over time in tone, pitch and especially accent. It would be really weird and off-putting if a 17-year old and a 50-year old had the exact same voice as each other.
|>>|| No. 18356
Here's an example of a voice actor who is able to do the same character 50 years apart.
|>>|| No. 18358
The voice is a little strange. According to Hideo he's meant to sound older than previous incarnations of Snake though that doesn't explain how Old Snake sounded better than that with Hayter.
Still, the game looks amazing in my view. Genuinely the only game trailer I've seen that makes me want to get an Xbone or PS4 (I'm still not going to but before I had absolute zero interest).
|>>|| No. 18361
That's a genetic disorder, not actual aging. Snake and Big Boss spent very different lives.
