It completely slipped my mind to preorder the xbox one until today. Seems I've left it a bit late. I'm struggling to find places that will even guarantee it for Christmas, let alone the 22nd November release date.
Anyone know of anywhere still offering availability for release day?

Doesn't the adult content of these games raise awkward questions that aught not to be raised at his age?

If he can follow RDR, does he understand the subtext behind Marston's interaction with his former gang members? Obviously being Marston's wife is a former prostitute and groupie that fucked all the people Marston is hunting and killing, calling into question his Son's parentage.

At 5 this would have warped my tiny mind.

The Xbone and PS4 are so bizarrely similar this time around, cosmetically. Both with the matt black and hated piano black pattern. Both look like old VCRs, especially to non-gamers and are fucking awful bits of design. I can see them being very dated and "of their age" in a short time. If only one of them had gone with a bit more character and style instead.

I don't know why they don't, I always tell the story of how I went in the shop to buy a PS3, but no backwards compatibility so walked out with a PS2 instead.

It's because the Xbox One hardware is so different from the 360. It would be like trying to play a 360 game on a PS3.. Well, sort of..

The boring techy answer is that the lack of backwards compatibility is a direct result of the move to x86 - both of the new systems are incapable of running a generalised, full speed emulator of their respective predecessor (and even if they were, the engineering cost to accurately emulate such complex systems would probably still be prohibitive). Consequently, Microsoft would need to physically include Xbox 360 hardware in order to achieve backwards compatibility, and the Xbox One already costs too much. It's pretty obvious that neither system would ever benefit from such a costly addition against the loss in sales due to the increased price.

If there was a separate model of the Xbox One that cost £100 extra (at a conservative estimate) and included backwards compatibility, would you pay for it?

They should have made up for it by including a C64 emulator. one of those C64s on a chip would be ideal.

Government-sponsored hardware is the greater priority; BBC Micro all the way. For too long have the upper-middle class been denied their own dedicated hardware inside modern gaming platforms.

This can't be true, surely? Someone here debunk this. I have a 4 year old HD 6970 and this implies it is 2.1 time more powerful than the Xbox's GPU.

The 6970 launched at £320. The Xbox One is effectively a complete PC, with a fairly pricey camera peripheral and a controller, that sells for £60 more. If you price up a like-for-like PC based around an AMD APU, the Xbox One is pretty good value. Console manufacturers usually make a loss on consoles, with the expectation of making up the money on game licensing fees.

I paid £160 for mine, one previous owner, 2 years ago. It can still max out new games, Metro: Last Light played on Ultra.

It just seems strange that there wouldn't be a card at least that powerful in the next gen consoles when the 6970 is a last gen card. To be honest, I haven't really researched it but I'm quite shocked if true.

A lot of it is down to the custom OS and drivers. Consoles tend to use the hardware more efficiently, because there's less background programmes running.

No longer needs the Kinect. New SKU for 350 quid.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-27396499

Exactly the same amount they were peddling the original for with Titanfall bundled a few weeks ago.
