It completely slipped my mind to preorder the xbox one until today. Seems I've left it a bit late. I'm struggling to find places that will even guarantee it for Christmas, let alone the 22nd November release date.
Anyone know of anywhere still offering availability for release day?

This console will melt, lad.

They've had to overclock it to compete with the Steam Machine and the PS4, but they haven't improved the cooling at all.

It's a terrible investment. Buy a PC.

Well if you must have a console, why the this one?

It is very unlikely to have any games worth paying through the nose for a fire hazard. Your PC will most definately play them better.

Why not use this money to upgrade your pc?

They haven't dropped the ball, it's more like they got so used to being hailed as champion footballers over the relegated Sony Wanderers they forgot they NEEDED a fucking ball in the first place.

Eventually MS will redeem the Xbox One but it's going to take them a good few years.

It's a perfectly reasonable topic of conversation and the only person who seems offended by it is you. I'm at a loss to understand how I could possibly be giving PC gamers a bad name by suggesting the entirely justified opinion that upgrading his already pretty good gaming PC rather than spending money on a Meltbox is a fairly sensible idea. Are opinions about things you don't like banned on .gs now?

However, he mentioned he has sentimental reason for buying one and I respect that so I didn't bother to reply after that.

Stop projecting your insecurities onto me. There was no reason for this to regress to bickering, you've started down this road. You're the only one who looks like a tit here.

>He doesn't want one

Not him, but that's not the point. It's a rip-off third class POS and a poor investment as an entertainment device.

Speaking as an ex-Xbox fan (had the Xbrick and loved it, still do to be honest) it's gone completely down the fucking pan since the 360 with how MS shaft you up the chuff and you're better off getting the fuck out while you haven't yet spent another c£300.

If you want a console the PS4 looks like it's the only sensible way to go, though the Steambox could be a very good alternative pending on more information.

I had a big gang of 'friends' on Xbox too, and some of them I played with on my Xbrick also. Honestly m8e, it's not actually that important. I don't think about mine anymore at all, in fact it's more than slightly embarrassing when I think about the poor time/entertainment return I got from that period.

Going off-topic is usually a given around here and it may be that the OP doesn't mind the derail. But out of respect, look at the post - he wasn't asking "what do you guys think of the Xbox One?", he was asking a specific and pointed question about where it can be purchased. We already have a lengthy thread here >>15700 about the merits of the Xbox One (or lack thereof).

OP Here, out with the xbox ones shitty merits as a gaming machine, I think it looks like a worthy multimedia device.
As for the steambox, I feel it's just going to be too similar to my PC. Why would I bother when I already have a decent gaming PC?
To be honest, it's the kinect that's really appealing to me. I want to be able to start watching TV by walking into my living room and shouting at my xbox. I want to change channel by waving my hand through the air like a spastic. I want to be able to watch MOTD whilst fiddling with my FUT, on the same screen. Have you got some kind of credible source for this, something that would indicate likelihood based on some concrete analysis? the xbox one has a lot going for it.

features I'm looking forward to are

HDMI in +Kinect +Sky TV will be mind blowing, changing the TV channel with a swipe of the hand or by saying XBOX Babestation or turning the volume up with a thumbs up or by saying XBOX Volume 23 will be like living in the future.

also Kinect with every console means devs will use it in a lot more games.

their cloud computing sounds pretty amazing too, the titanfall demo looks great and thats only a start. can't wait to see how it develops.

It also has the best exclusives of the upcoming generation.

I appreciate the concerns with the hardware though, but it'll certainly do.

Honestly after the billions they lost on the RRoD debacle I'd expect Microsoft to be paranoid to a fault about it this time around.

I would still be quite amused if the Xbox One launched and all they all just started overheating right from day one, but I wouldn't think it much of a risk to be honest - no more or less likely than any of the competition, anyway.

I had an Eyetoy and I never got any fun out of it, the fucking thing never worked properly. Can't speak to Kinect working or not but I don't think it's a fair comparison either way - it's like saying the original iPhone was "boring and old" because touchscreen mobile devices had existed previously. Implementation is everything.

I suspect you're right about the Rift being the next game changer, the people who've tried one say as much anyway.

Based on admittedly pretty shaky launch statistics that I read somewhere and now can't find, which are now largely unverifiable, 0.4% of PS4s bricked at launch. 10% of Xbox Ones did.

0.4% seem well within the realms of possibility for user error, turning off during a firmware patch bricking it, disk drive problems, etc.

10% can't be real, surely? 1 in fucking 10? I can't believe it...

I don't get why anyone would bother buying these things on day one when it is so obvious it is never a good idea due to early faults and gouging prices. It's not like there's been a shortage of games. These days we've even got a monster sized back catalogue that we never had at the dawn of gaming.

I hear the TV thing for the xbone turned out to be shitty for the UK (and presumably other PAL countries) as they configured it for USA TV signals and didn't bother their arse to consider or properly configure it for the rest of the world, despite charging the full price there too. Nice one MS.

But most of the games people want to play are being released on last gen consoles, with the only real difference between 360/Xbone and PS3/PS4 versions being nicer textures but on much less reliable hardware. I don't think there are any next gen exclusives out for a long time that would justify the purchase of a launch console.
>>17723
Nintendo's hardware is always good, it's why the term Nintendium exists. I've had every Nintendo console/handheld bar the Virtual Boy, and I've only had one hardware failure. That was the Gamecube, and that was only after it was bashed around by my younger brothers and it gave up after 6 years.

Had a broken PS, PS2 and PS3; and had 2 broken Xbox's and 2 broken 360's. They just can't compare to Nintendo's build quality.

This is Call of Duty 2 on the 360, it was one of the launch titles. Looks reasonably comparable to an original Xbox game to me.

That said, the difference between Ghosts on a 360 and an Xbox One is definitely not enough to make me contemplate the upgrade. I didn't buy a 360 at launch, though, for the same reason. I remember at the PS2 launch people moaning about how shit Tekken Jag Tournament looked and nobody would buy it over the Dreamcast blah blah blah. Every console that has ever launched has had fuck all games to begin with, and it takes time for the developers to start getting the most out of the box, that's just how it goes.

Ahhhh Gun. Great game, yet rushed. You can see where certain paths that would have branched off to other areas have been blocked by boulders etc as they had to cut down to deadline. I think the pc version had people mess about and find loads of hidden and cut content.

Thing is, I still prefer it to RDR.

I always liked the PC versions of games for that reason. The modding and extra exploration of the game. Lots of games seem to ship with hidden content from these late editing choices. Sometimes there can be a modder's paradise hidden inside.

This seems designed deliberately to alienate people. Sometimes telling a game to fuck off is the only thing that helps, it seems like thought police bullshit.

Between friends? I'd imagine that'll change, if it's true now.

I was on the fence about this up until now. All my friends are on xbox live bar a few, but if I can't even have a laugh with them in a private game of team deathmatch then what the fuck is the point?

A father who bought a 'bargain' XBox One on eBay was shocked to receive a grainy printed photo of one instead.

Peter Clatworthy, 19, spent a year saving up to buy a limited edition of the sought-after console for his son McKenzie's fourth Christmas. But the student was duped last week by an advert which said 'XBox One Fifa Day One Edition, Photo Brand New UK 2012' - referring only to a sheet of A4 paper.

The boring techy answer is that the lack of backwards compatibility is a direct result of the move to x86 - both of the new systems are incapable of running a generalised, full speed emulator of their respective predecessor (and even if they were, the engineering cost to accurately emulate such complex systems would probably still be prohibitive). Consequently, Microsoft would need to physically include Xbox 360 hardware in order to achieve backwards compatibility, and the Xbox One already costs too much. It's pretty obvious that neither system would ever benefit from such a costly addition against the loss in sales due to the increased price.

If there was a separate model of the Xbox One that cost £100 extra (at a conservative estimate) and included backwards compatibility, would you pay for it?

The 6970 launched at £320. The Xbox One is effectively a complete PC, with a fairly pricey camera peripheral and a controller, that sells for £60 more. If you price up a like-for-like PC based around an AMD APU, the Xbox One is pretty good value. Console manufacturers usually make a loss on consoles, with the expectation of making up the money on game licensing fees.

It just seems strange that there wouldn't be a card at least that powerful in the next gen consoles when the 6970 is a last gen card. To be honest, I haven't really researched it but I'm quite shocked if true.
