More women are in the workforce than ever before. I can't help but think this is a bad thing.

(A good day to you Sir!)

A bad thing for who?

Personally I find myself asking whether it's because we're making strides towards gender equality, or if it's just because the traditional nuclear family is utterly financially unattainable nowadays.

incidentally i feel like blokes would get behind feminism much more enthusiastically if it was acceptable to be a house husband with a rich wife who has to buy you xbox games or else you'll cheat on her with the milk-woman

>A BAD THING FOR WHO?

What if all this time we've been blaming immigrants for taking jobs and driving down wages when the reality is it's women?

I mean you're not the first to make that connection. i'd assume it's been gradual enough that economic growth and job creation has largely kept up enough for it not to have been an issue; women started joining the labour force over the course of decades post war and general population growth has happened alongside it.

i would be interested to see if there are any reliable figures out there comparing economic growth with an average worker's share of the economy over that time scale, though. as a socialist i find it hard to ignore any factor which has diluted the market and weakened labour power. i wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to have been a legitimate factor.

It was pointed out when we had the gender pay gap thread the other year that a lot of the calls for the likes of BBC staff to achieve parity are for the pay of men to go down rather than for the pay of women to go up.

i'd find that sort of thing very helpful were i a capitalist of the big fridge etc variety. why, if i could pay all my workers minimum wage, i could eliminate inequality overnight!

Yes feminism has really fucked the housing market by increasing the demand without increasing the number of builders and just made our lives in real terms cost twice as much as they did before as the slow slip of what companies can get away with paying when people have less need for more money as it is split in half took over.

Nuclear family on a single low income is looking pretty utopian right now.

The solution is to encourage women into the building profession?

well if the number of houses went up with, or faster than the demand we might end up with a utopia on our hands...

Most people can tell the difference between not taking things too seriously and shitting your own pants 'for a laugh'. You are embarrassing yourself now.

It's an odd paradox that I've read before. How has the working class women fared from rise of opportunities? They work in jobs caring for the sprogs of career women and dream of becoming a footballers wife to escape having to work.
