Marinade is a noun ("Soak the chicken in the marinade overnight.") and marinate is a verb ("Marinate the chicken overnight.").

Therefore it follows that serenade is a noun ("To sing her a serenade.") and serenate is the verb ("To serenate her.").

And if she really likes your serenade, she'll be serenated in her own juices.

I don't understand why they've put the chicken in a bag and then put that bag in a bowl. Just put it in the bowl, right?

It's sort of considered very unhygienic to leave uncovered meat just laying around overnight. Even if that doesn't bother you any meat not under liquid will tend to start drying out.

You can cover a greater surface area with a smaller amount of liquid in a bag than you can in a bowl, but bags also can leak so you need a bowl under it.
