Bought a block of chedder cheese which cost 25p because it expires tomorrow

There's a tiny bit of green mold on the outside but that's all I can see wrong with it.

If I cut off the mold, is it safe to eat? How long should I keep this cheese before having to throw it?

I hate to say this OP but the mold you can see is actually the dead stuff, so lopping it off will do no good. I know it's 25p but I'd take it back if it's a day off and mouldy.

Not really, surface mould is usually the fruiting body producing spores. This makes mouldy bread a problem because if you take off what you can see, there is still a lot of mould inside the bread itself which can be harmful.

However with most cheeses, it's perfectly safe to cut the mould off the surface, cheese is too solid for moulds to grow inside.

Ever been to the Wensleydale creamery lad? Cracking place Hawes has one of the nicest chippies that uses dripping I have ever known, especially the bit in the factory where you go about just gawping at cheeses.
My heart skips a beat to see the cakes of their blue! I tell you.

Bringing discussion onto something else - why haven't we recovered from "Government Cheddar" made during the war? Chorleywood (aka laughing stock of Europe) might have something to do with it.

This sounds like a fantastic holiday, if only it weren't for my recently-discovered lactose 'intolerance'. I say intolerance, last night I had a Ring of Fire pizza and today I'm enjoying the combined effects of the pizza's namesake with horrific alternating constipation and diarrhoea.

It was a damn tasty pizza though.
