Unless he plans on wiping laplanderstan off the map and squeezing China's balls in the Malacca Strait I don't really see how. It's hardly Greater South Asia if it's just a shaky alliance with ASEAN. More like renaming India Greater Hindustan without having all the bits to legitimise the name.

It's a shame how India has ended up. They could've acted as a nice counter-balance to China saving the West the trouble but instead it has just become another Russia that can't keep its pants up long enough to sell a grand strategic vision. Modi won't amount to shit, Greater South Asia will really be greater Asia with Xi Jinping at the helm and a ton of backseat drivers from Russia to Japan to Turkey.

It's weird thinking one of the characters in that show was supposed to be born not in the last century, but the century before. Mind you rag and bone men using a horses drawn cart feels like distant history now anyway.

I'm sure young'uns will be saying the same thing about us one day. Our great grandchildren will hear we were born in the 20th century and assume we fought Hitler before coming back after the war and watching the moon landing in a drive through theatre with our high school sweetheart.

They won't have long to wonder over our lives however as the sentient moon people will quickly drag them back to work in the vast marmalade plantations of the future.

It's going to be so odd explaining to my future children that in ye olde days if you wanted to meet up with mates you had to ring their house from your house, hope they were in and arrange a place to meet assuming they'd turn up. Or just go to a local hangout and see if they were there.

They'll never really understand since everything is so permanently interconnected now, it makes me feel like one of those old people who bang on about how crap life used to be yet how it was also somehow better.

I wonder if anyone under 20 knows what D & B tastes like, or if they've ever felt the thrill of finding a few intact pages of the Sunday Sport in a bush.

You've left out the bit where you don't actually know their number so you appear unannounced and hoped they were in and happy to see you. The idea of turning up on someone's doorstep completely unannounced it seems profoundly alien to me now and like it would now be perceived as the height of creepy by anyone under 25.

Phoning people nowadays is odd.

If you phone people they assume you're mental for not texting on messenger or whatsapp or someone must have died. Even the idea of texting is bizarre. The only SMS texts I get now are off my mum or my phone company.

This cycle is nightmarish.
I'm starting to think it's easier to just make peace with being a friendless 20 something than catch up with social media bullshit now. Doubly so because not getting a reply, or (latterly, when I was pretending to try to make friends at university.) getting told people are busy or whatever just builds up paranoia that actually nobody wants to bother with you anyway.

Fuck trying to figure out a whole other set of social norms at the intersection of real life and the internet, and fuck having a record of things I've said pinned to my name. Life's confusing enough as it is and the rewards will only disappoint.

The issue is that there is too much social media and other forms of communication.

Today is my day off. I've been spending it trying to be isolated from the world. So far I've had two missed phone calls, a handful of messenger messages, a facebook tag, a knock on the door from the electoral people, a snapchat and a few dating app matches. Getting difficult to have some alone time.

I remember hearing about some woman who died new years times and people only found her days later. In a way I'm slightly envious that she could go more than one day without someone contacting her.

I am still amazed that this is the case. I am 30. I was one of the first FB users once it launched outside of the US.

For the past 8 years I haven't touched social media, and yet I still get invited to parties and dates and such. Usually by phone or SMS. I think you guys are hanging out with the wrong people. Or worse, trying to hang out with the vacuous morons.

Everyone stopped using instant messengers in order to text from their phones except that was expensive so they use whatsapp and now i find you can connect your whatsapp to the computer and people are using it in browsers.

I still use a £10 Nokia, never had a smartphone. I call/text people if I need to and they know how to get in touch with me. It's nice, I like not being so connected. It does seem to annoy people sometimes but fuck 'em. Never used any social media either.
