I couldn't find an existing gambling thread and I felt the board needs one.

Any of you chaps bet? I have £10 E/W on The Thrill is Gone (28/1) at Newbury 3:45 and I'll probably bet on the football at the weekend.

I've never been one for the horses despite growing up in a racing town, but I like a flutter on other stuff. I'm missing the Tour de France greatly, since I picked 6 stage winners, the overall winner and second place rider, and the winnner of the green jersey. La Vuelta a Espana will probably be my next big investment, but I'll likely have something on the football too.

I've already had £20 on United for the title just to soften the blow if it happens.

No, just under £20 better off, well when bet365 finally settle the bet. I've lost £5 thinking Leeds Rhinos would make a comeback in the Challenge Cup final though.

I'm a Hull City fan, so I'm tempted to bet on the club losing every away game. Today makes it 29 league & cup away games without winning, so it will be win-win either way for me.

I haven't read into this yet - did NoTW uncover the story or did the match fixing only take place because NoTW offered some guy £150k?

The thing I love about NoTW is that if they don't have anything to report on they'll go out and create their own scandals.

>I haven't read into this yet - did NoTW uncover the story or did the match fixing only take place because NoTW offered some guy £150k?

The guy spoke openly about previous matches which had been fixed/events within matches which were staged, so it's evident that it was going on and the NoTW simply managed to get in on the action. The only thing we know for sure about this series is those three no-balls, but think back to all that inexplicably bad fielding in the first test. It's hard not to be suspicious about everything.

Sky Sports News showed footage earlier of Kamram Akmal's keeping in the now notorious test in Sydney where Pakistan had been in such a strong position that the Aussies for 40/1 to win, before going on to do so. This fixer says that it had been arranged that Pakistan would let the Aussies bat themselves back into it to a lead of about 150, then would collapse themselves. Akmal is just dropping Hussey left, right and centre - and all of them are dollies. At one point a throw comes into the stumps which he gathers cleanly and could have run him out by yards, but for some reason he just doesn't bother taking the bails off.

I'm probably going to have a treble bet on the Champions League, although I haven't made my mind up between: Bursaspor - Valencia, FC Copenhagen - Rubin, FC Twente - Inter, Lyon - Schalke, Bremen - Tottenham, Bayern - Roma, Cluj - Basel and Marseille - Spartak.

So obviously that picked up a few quid, but the free money I mentioned was the real point of it all. Because I'd signed up to an account there ages ago, forgotten about it and opened another without ever using it, they sent me an email saying that if I bet £20 on a champions league game they would give me £30 win or lose. I've just withdrawn almost £60 without risking a penny.

I highly recommend opening an account with betfair and then not using it at all.

I dislike Leeds because when I was younger and Hull were in Division 3 and Leeds were in the Prem you would see an awful lot of Leeds shirts in Hull city centre and many of them crossed the line from good banter to just being arrogant cunts. Plus, when both clubs were in the Championship 3/4 seasons ago many Leeds fans still had their big club mentality, so it was great to stay up at their expense, especially as they tried to dick around with going into administration.

I don't understand why fans of clubs that have no connection or rivalry with Leeds (although it is mainly Hull fans that care about the Hull - Leeds rivalry, I bet most Leeds fans don't give a shit, just like the rivalry we're meant to have with Sheffield United) sing 'we all hate Leeds scum' though. I know a couple of seasons ago a section of Swindon fans would regularly chant it, fuck knows why.

I've never heard of any Hull rivalry. I like Hull and wanted them to do well when they were up in the premiership. That 'alpha male' Brown was an entertaining arsehole, too.

I was born in Leeds and still don't live too far away. Most of the dickhead Leeds fans I met were from around there and weren't just glory hunters (back when there was glory to be had). On a side note some of Ridsdale's remarks about the chequebook days are hilarious.

>I've never heard of any Hull rivalry.
My point exactly. I think some Hull fans consider it a rivalry because there's not really anyone near us in Yorkshire, the Sheffield United one is pretty much down to spending a lot of time together in the same division. Apparently York and Lincoln consider Hull as one of their main rivals, but I don't think any City fan really gives a shit. I only care about Grimsby, Scunny and to a lesser extent, Donny.

I hope Phil Brown gets back into management soon, he may have imploded in the Premiership and the only legacy we have from being there is a high wage bill (the debts meant cancelling planned stadium expansion and building a youth academy), but if it wasn't for him we'd have ended up in League One. He said he'd take any job to get back into management, but I know he's turned down a few League One/Two clubs.

After seeing the Yanky Football on the telly earlier, I decided to use the last £8 in my Billy Hill account despite knowing nothing about the sport.
Green Bay Packers to win
The something Jaguars to win
And Pittsburgh Steelers to win.
If these Steeler people win later, I'll be 50 notes better off. Fingers crossed.

There were some great bets around on the rugby this weekend. NZ scoring more than 32.5 against Scotland was about as obvious as they come, and with the handicaps I chose on the accumulator, the winning margins of the four games were Wales by 9, Samoa by 17, New Zealand by 36 and England by 26. I wish I'd been less conservative now, but mustn't grumble.

Pretty much, I mainly bet on the Championship and Champions League.

Fancied betting on Chelsea to beat MSK Zilina now they're 1 - 0 down, but the odds are still below evens so I'm giving that a miss.

I had Braga to beat Arsenal at 9/2, though, so all is well enough.

Had a decent day betting on the Boxing Day matches - of the 8 bets I had that weren't called off because of the snow 5 of them were on the money. Biggest return was Cardiff and Burnley @ 4.4/1; it was meant to be a treble including Norwich beating Palace (9.9/1) but that was postponed.

Thank you Jimmy Bullard for deciding to score a 93rd minute winner after spending the last 30 minutes as a bystander.

Don't credit Bullard with that one. Cameron Stewart ran the entire pitch and got unlucky, Bullard just kicked the ball in the net.

I know, I hope Stewart is a City player next season, but I have the feeling if he keeps playing this well he'll end up at a Prem club.

I have the feeling we can sneak into the play-offs this season, since the Allam takeover everything seems to be nicely falling into place.

I think our days of being gazumped have left with Phil Brown, I've heard it's between him and Allardyce for the Burnley job, Pearson seems to know the market well.

Back on topic, decided to bet on an acca with Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs and Bolton winning (18.5/1). Should have known better than to bet on a game involving Liverpool and stuck with the first three @ 3.9/1.

>I think I'm probably a mug for not just backing the ones everybody knows are going to win.

Apparently, someone bet £100,000 on Hurricane Fly because it was the clear favourite. The field for Sprinter Sacre was ridiculous though.

I'm slightly down for the day because I stuck a treble on Sprinter Sacre, Hurricane Fly and Quevega (4.5/1) so I've decided to stick a tenner on Reading beating Doncaster (10/11) to get into a downward spiral and make an even bigger loss try and even it out.

Welp. Don't fancy much betting today. Simonsig (9/4) in the 2.05 and Sizing Europe (Evens) in the 3.20 is all I fancy, may stick an e/w bet on Poole Master (12/1), Cape Dutch (16/1) or Balgarry (7/1) later, if I can make my mind up.

Hope this isn't too much of a diversion, but since you've bumped the thread, like. I've been toying with the idea of putting money down on boxing for ages now, as I follow a few fighters quite closely (started the thread at >>4742).

Golovkin to win his next by knockout within the first four is almost a given, and Pacquiao to win by stoppage or points wouldn't be a bad call either. I wonder if any shop would take a bet as safe as Pacquiao to win against Algieri, or if it would even be worth making.

I can't actually gamble because it would be stupidly irresponsible given my financial situation. I might play pretend for a little while, though. Keep a virtual bankroll or something.
