What's your uni? My mate use to be president of the one here. It was remarkable, whenever they had an away game and needed to fill up the coach to lower costs he would just ring the president of the cheerleading squad and say "I need X amount of Sharkettes" and she'd be like "Done". Ever since then my superpower of choice whenever asked has been on-demand cheerleaders.

Sussex. It was only set up last year so this is their first year in the league.

Anyway tomorrow is an intro sesh ans there's three sets of training and selection is based on that apparently. 20 or so places to fill.

American football is one of those sports a lot of people want to just give a go when they get to uni, I doubt you're going to get told to fuck off for having little or no prior experience in the sport and I doubt your team is going to be full of experienced players. Enjoy it!

Wasn't American football invented as something to put on between adverts?

20 seems a bit thin. You have 11 on the field of play, and usually switch out most of the team when possession changes.

One part of me is saying that it's a lovely cultural exchange between two sides of the Atlantic, and that I've always been curious about American sports in general. I'd love to go to a baseball game one day.

The Welsh part of me, though, is jabbering and pointing his finger saying, "What's wrong with rugby, eh?"

They're got 30 or so players from last year, they just got 20 openings this year.

Anyway, one down three to go, it went alright, wide receiver was fun and I was pretty consistant at catching it, unfortunately I'm pretty short. Corner seemed alright too.

I'm trying out for OT/DT, Lincoln uni's side isn't exactly auspicious so I'm hopeful.

See, the Sussex Saxons are enormous. There's so much interest it's ridiculous, and it doesn't help that the Rugby team was dismantled by the uni governing board last year so there's an influx of rugby students.

Anyway, had my second tryout today, was alright, I'm going for wide receiver but one of the guys who joined this year is receiver for the Italian national team. Oops.

So much sprinting though, my upper legs and arse are death today.

If they're anything like their rugby team, you'll have no problem getting a spot ahead of him.

No mate.

Anyway in addition to the muscle ache I've got a cut on my hand, a blood blister on my foot and the point of the ball smashed into my hand and now it doesn't work quite properly. I wasn't even involved in tackling today.

Oh well. Good fun.

Get the to Envy, lad. I'm sure a few top lads will buy you a pint or three if you tell them you failed in your dream of becoming an American football player.
