I quite like the idea of giving blood, but I'm a massive fanny when it comes to needles so I don't do it. I don't really have the free time for volunteering and I'm quite wary of donating money to charity.

How can I 'do good' and make the world a better place?

Make time or get over your fear of those other things. It's difficult to "do good" without the "do".

I think often times there's some element of selflessness involved in doing good and you sort of said you can't be doing with that. Give to cancer research or a hospital, that seems like a safe option. At some point some of your charity might grace to palm of a complete bastard, but it's either that or, by your own standards, sod all.

I'll donate blood if you pay me £20.

You can build a birdhouse and stuff like that in your own home, maybe feed the pigeons (sometimes the sparrows too). There's also a fair amount of more organised volunteering that goes on although understandably it died off during the pandemic.

Could also stop being a poof about needles?

If there's a shortage of blood wouldn't it be possible to keep a few brain dead people alive on ventilators and to continually extract their blood?

It'd be better to kill two birds with one stone and make Universal Credit contingent on blood contributions.

There are a lot of rules for people who aren't allowed to give blood for fairly minor reasons, so maybe you're like me and you won't be able to give blood anyway:

https://www.blood.co.uk/who-can-give-blood/can-i-give-blood/
https://my.blood.co.uk/knowledgebase/

You could become one of those insufferable people with petitions if you really want to do good. You could even just write to your MP if there's something you care strongly about; most people don't even bother doing that so it's better than nothing.

I think there's the bones of a decent idea in here.

Don't affect existing universal credit by any means, but offer extra if people do things like giving blood or litter picking.

I like this suggestion. Bird boxes unique to a breed, or insect hotels are another way of "doing good" easily.

I'd happily have something like an organ donor card for my blood in the event I end up in a vegetative state. Might even be an insurance should you ever wake up years later or they develop the technology to repair whatever is wrong with you.

I assume the upkeep isn't worth the value of the blood though.

The problem with something extra is that there's a total ban on selling human bio stuff in the UK. It's partly why there's such a shortage of spunk in the UK because they can only cover your travel costs.

Justified reason for this is the tainted blood scandal I guess. People make all sorts of ethical arguments but in reality it's because people desperate for dosh have shit cells, the kind of cells who live off your bodies bennies and reproduce with other exotic cells until your whole body collapses in a few generations.

The suggestion I forgot to add was that you can do medical research. You can even get paid large sums for it while helping medical research such as "how many women can one man shag in a day?", I think flu camp alone is £100 a day.

Is that where they conduct covid research?

Why would they need to conduct research if they have a waiver?

Sound like social credit scores done right, at first glance. Opt-in national nepotism, so to speak (I'm sure there'll be a better term for it). Maybe even bring socialism into it.
