If you don't want to go, why not ask them? If you're allowed to discharge yourself, they'll tell you. If they're going to chase you with a butterfly net, they'll tell you that too and you can decide that maybe it's okay to go after all.

Unless you've been criminally convicted and you're currently on parole or you are currently subject to a guardianship order, they can't force you to live in a halfway house. If you aren't managing your mental health, they can return you to hospital.

If you aren't happy in your current situation and want help with finding alternative housing or accessing welfare, I'd suggest contacting NY Adult Protective Services on 212-630-1853.

Maybe it is a deserving political issue after all, if 31 year old men are being forced to transition against their will.
