Not him but I'm not much impressed with it either. To me it sounds exactly like what it is - an attempt to do the Marshal Mathers LP all over again. The production is solid but boring, and the lyrical content is cynically aimed to emulate that very special style that once made waves, but today is a bit underwhelming. People like it because it's Eminem, and sounds a bit like old Eminem, rather than because it's good. It's certainly not pushing any boundaries, which seems like the most important part of the genre for me.

Something like Wizville is a much better recent release, on all counts, and has some big, big names on it. But some british lad will never have the traction of Marshal releasing a 'meh' surprise album.

Probably because it's generic and a complete departure from what make him unique in the first place — the High Focus almost psychedelic sound and minimalist production.

Given I've only heard a couple of tracks from the new one but already I can tell Chaos '93 excelled in pretty much every criteria you listed.

I do agree with what you've said, entirely, and the discussion about how almost everything out of High Focus is fucking fantastic is well worth having, but I just wanted to compare it to something recent and in the charts, and that's the first thing that came to mind. The fact it's not his best album proves my point further, I think.

There's still some very good tunes on there, mind, seems like there's still Dike all over the album but I don't know for sure.

I feel like he's spent most of his career doing an impression of himself, once he'd found a formula. His shtick is so old. His 90s freestyles and battle raps and punchlines were actually funny.

At least he doesn't sound like he's on helium anymore. It's amazing how much deeper everyone's voice gets once they've had a two-decade career. I wouldn't have recognised Copywrite's voice compared with his old stuff.

Hit the nail on the head. I think he was just too much of a novelty for me to ever consider him good. He's white rap for people who don't even like rap.

Even the guys who still do boom bap and still just try their hardest to sound like Wu feel fresher than Kamikaze to me. It's a sad state of affairs, soothed only by the british stuff.

Considering how Blade was one of the most famous British rappers, I don't get how he's managed to disappear so completely. He's kept his real name a dead secret, his Wikipedia article's been deleted, he's dropped right off the map and it's impossible to find out what he's doing now. Maybe he's got a serious job who would disapprove of his music career but he didn't rap about anything that contentious.
