Why did Drum and Bass die?

Trance is still going strong, but D&B is fucking dead. All the big D&B DJs do dubstep or nothing at all.

Tell me I'm wrong and there are a swathe of up and coming D&B artists, .gs!

There's plenty of DnB being made still, just go look for it. YouTube has plenty of channels where you'll find new stuff (within the confines of what DnB actually is mind).

As for what happened to it being popular general public? That's just how trends work. Dubstep probably beat it due to the fact it was a mostly fresh sounding genre at one point.

D&B isn't dead, it's just resting. Crissy Criss still has a weekly show on 1xtra, Hospital Records are still putting out tons of new releases, there are D&B raves happening regularly all over the country.

Dubstep's moment has passed now, the mainstream has moved on to house. Most of the big name trance DJs aren't really playing trance any more - all the offshoots of house have merged back into one big Deep Swedish whole.

Styles just drift in and out of fashion. Casual listeners demand loads of music that sounds like everything else until they're sick of it, then a breakthrough track grabs everyone's attention and sparks another wave of derivative music. Plus ca change.

D&B trivia: Crissy Criss is Kenny Ken's stepson, hence the name.

This song will forever be burnt into my mind as the soundtrack to a few joints before bed after a night out. I miss spending my student loan on drugs and wasting my days away with the lads. Those were golden times now that I look back on them.

I don't tend to find black women as attractive as I do women of my own colour that often.

Azealia Banks is absolutely stunning though. Such a beautiful face that doubles up with a cute, heart-warming smile.

I'm not sure if I want to have sex with her or sit with her and try and make her laugh so she smiles more.

Are you saying I'm racist because I have a preference? I don't believe in any superiority, I just like what I like, yet ironically still think she is beautiful.

You're pulling out all the mental gymnastics here mate I wonder how you get through everyday life with this sort of duty to take offence on behalf of other people.

I'd bet my last pound you're white, probably middle class, too.

Do people honestly think that you have to be equally attracted to every race or you're a racist? I'm not sure if people are this oblivious or offended on behalf of other people.

To attempt a serious answer to this, you don't have to be "a racist" to not be attracted to every race equally, but what we're attracted to is heavily influenced by cultural standards of beauty, which have traditionally favoured a European, fair skinned appearance and are deeply racist.

"European culture" is a collection of national, regional, ethnic, cultures, all of which are strongly influence of globalised culture. Acting as if having a culture that happens to be centred in the European continent means you should be mostly attracted to white people is a bit mental.

I honestly think it's a bit more mental to assume that people having a preference in how others look, particularly for those similar to them, have some underlying racist thoughts and dislike for other races. Particularly when said people say how attractive somebody outside of that bubble is.

The only person who was rude and demeaning was the person usnig derogatory terms and assuming that 'not usually finding' meant that it meant 'all black girls'.

It's a weird feeling getting your logic from somebody feeling enlightened but actually operating in the opposite direction.

That's why I purposely made the distinction between "being a racist" and "having racist standards of beauty".

It's not racist to have preference though. I don't believe any beauty is superior, I just like something better in my own opinion.

If I like something better than something else, I don't assume it's better, I just like it.

I like Ford cars over Citroen ones, I don't think one is better than the other, I just have a preference. A real racist standard of beauty would be saying that I don't like black girls because I believe they're all too sassy or have big lips.

Before this point, the only person that even brought negative connotations was you (or your tumblr friend) using racist terms.

Yes, but cultural and racist standards of beauty are a funny thing.

Racist cultural standards are a funny one, because throwing it around and even bringing it up when not needed is implying there is an element surely.

The preference for many comes naturally, usually because humans find those that look similar to them attractive. Cultural and social racism in beauty would be finding Europeans more beautiful and having a preference because you believe being white is better, or only produces better features.

Nobody even meant any harm, how do you not get a headache from this kind of mental mashing on a daily basis?

No, there is no "because". "Culture" doesn't reason or attempt to justify anything, people do and, yet again, this is not about anyone personally being a racist.
