Has anyone else seen this?
The story is nothing special so far, but the art is pretty good, Jacen Burrows who did Bad World and Transmetropolitan, so lots of gore with small amusing details to notice.

The main thing I like about it is the baddies are all "crossed"; (it's a zombie apocalypse with intelligent rage zombies) but the markings on their faces make them look like england football fans.
I get the feeling the inspiration for this one was Ennis and Burrows going to an away match.

Burrows did not do Transmet, that was pencilled by Darrick Robertson and inked by Rodney Ramos.

You're a cunt. Transmet was a 60-issue series, pencilled by Darick Robertson, and inked for the most part by Rodney Ramos, though there were others. There were a couple of issues and spin-offs that had art by other people, one of which was indeed Filth of The City (which featured art by a number of guest artists). Burrows contributed a single double-page spread in a special spin-off of the series - he did not "do" Transmet, and to pretend otherwise is pathetic. Burrows did Bad World, he did other Avatar stuff with Ellis, and he's a damn good artist, but he did not "do" Transmetropolitan.
Now fuck off.

And here is that double page spread. I've never read Transmetropolitan but this Filth of the City special makes me want to give it a go. Each double page or so has a newspaper clipping illustrated by someone new each time. Some of the news clippings are quite tantalising.

Read it, it's a great series. The clippings are extracts from the protagonist's newspaper column, in case you were wondering.

I read the first 4 issues of Crossed yesterday, it reminds me of Walking Dead a bit. Its got the dark sense of humour thats expected with Garth Ennis, which makes it different enough from Walking Dead to keep me interested.

I did have quite a bit of Crossed saved that I was going to read, but I forgot to transfer my comics folder from my old laptop to my new one when I let my gf have my old one, then my gf vaped the vista I had on my old one so she could have XP on it. Then XP didn't work properly so she got a copy of vista and installed that...
I'm still in the process of reconstructing my comics folder...

It is odd. I can understand why something like The Ultimates would have a sporadic release, due purely to the amount of work that goes into the thing, but the artwork on Crossed is horrible, and the colouring looks like they hired some random arsehole off Deviantart to quickly fill it in during his lunchbreak. It really shouldn't take too long.

I honestly thought what Avatar had done was take some early Garth Ennis script, written back when he was a fourteen year old who wanted to be a comic book writer when he grew up - and then gave the script to the cheapest artists they could find. I thought this was a very cynical money for old rope deal, but I'm so, so surprised that this isn't the case.

I don't mind the artwork, if it was Rob Liefeld then I could see cause for complaint. I know its not great art by any means, not everyone can be Jim Lee or Alex Ross. It's certainly more than serviceable at least everyone looks different and unique, rather than with some comic book artists who only seem to be only do one type of female face for example.

My biggest complaint is why is it a bi-monthyl when the stories are so short, it could easily be released as a monthly comic, just give the artist time to get ahead on the art.

Oh it's certainly not Liefeld bad, but it's the kind of standard I'd expect from a webcomic or self-published thing, not really up to a professional standard; maybe that's why it's taking the guy so long to draw it.

I am I the only one that thinks this is downright nonsense? He's got this idea in his head that this story isn't going to be the same as every other horror story; theres not going to be any convenient or fortuitous events to help everyone out. Theres no lucky escapes. He's quite keen to point this out in every issue.

So instead... every issue is filled with these silly two-dimensional characters being tortured, because that's realistic. They might as well all give the reader a little nod and a wink because this is all so self-conscious.

I just binged on every issue to date, and I think it's rather fun.

It's no Walking Dead though and I'm not sure I'd pay money for it.

Oh, and it's very similar to Ellis' Blackgas, which I felt pretty much the same about.
