It is totally unrelated. American 'profundity' is often composed of departures into the supposed sublime. It is a ploy to confuse the spectator into suspecting they may be in the presence of something clever. An unlikely explanation.

They are meant to show her looking with disdain at the photos for they do not reflect reality.

"CHEESE! Smile for the camera!" It has little to do with her daily reality and they may look nice and happy and living the all-American dream as a perfect family, but inside they are miserable. It is further contrasted and highlights these things when you see family life for real and hopefully have pieced together the rather horrible situation.
