Would we be interested in a Minecraft server again?

Answers in the form of what hosting service to use and what mods we need, thanks.

I would - but the game is changing really face at the moment. Should we wait until a full release of 1.8?

Anyway, the last one died cos it was so quiet. And there were the mandatory knobs and twats ruining our autism.

I would recommended Mekanism and Galacticraft if you want to create some sort of goal to reach but there's issues with the electric system making each system incompatible with each other.

Could be wise. The vanilla(ish) one I ran was alright, and it was entirely my own fault it died. I'll leave someone more competent in control this time.

I don't know about anyone else, but I haven't played MC since, well since those servers were up. I don't even think there was enchanting back then. If everyone else has been away just as long we'll get some nice mileage out of the stock game, at least for a while.

Don't blame yourself, it was run well - and it had a decent community after a while.

Thing was that I had real life obligations to attend to.

The stock game is fine and still a lot of fun I think.

If there is any modpacks to get, Feed The Beast is a tremendous one. Highly recommend.

2.5 billion dollars. I can't comprehend that kind of money.

Also not quite sure why Microsoft wouldn't kill the PS3/4 versions. This is exactly the kind of exclusive the XB1 needs.

I think that it's a completely different scenario. Mojang isn't an up-and-coming company that is still working on a first real product, as Oculus is. Minecraft is mature to the point of stagnation; Notch wants to work on new projects, but he feels burdened by the success of Mojang and the huge user base the company is now supporting. Selling the company gives him the freedom to return to what he is good at, rather than sit in meetings about merchandise deals and act as the caretaker for a product that has run its natural course.

His beef with the Oculus deal was, specifically, "I don't like Facebook. I didn't give you money for you to get bought by Facebook." Substitute "Microsoft" and I imagine you'll get a common sentiment.

I sometimes make the mistake of visiting /r/minecraft, and to no surprise every toddler jumps to the conclusion that it'll be destroyed by MS. Bloody hell, the game is 5 fucking years old, it's still languishing in content thats being slowly drip-fed into the community. I really don't understand how is acceptable, as normally a company would just push to include everything that should be there and call it a day, bar for the odd bug update or two.

The saving grace was MC being really really fun, and having extra content after purchase was a bonus, but I feel the game yearns for so much more than whats on offer - just look at some of the incredible mods. And those are completely free.

$2.5 B thats incredible, take the money and run you fat bastard.

MS apparently believe they'll have broken even on the purchase by the end of the fiscal year. Minecraft's such a huge phenomenon that I don't find it that hard to believe.

I'd still like to see how they worked that out though. Maybe they intend on taking a share of the ad revenue from Minecraft Let's Players on Youtube. The fallout from that would be hilarious.

Merchandise and tie-ins, mainly. I expect them to launch "Minecraft: Star Wars Edition", sell all sorts of branded DLC, and churn out boatloads of plastic tat emblazoned with little pixellated landscapes. Rovio have made more money on that sort of thing than they did from two billion downloads of Angry Birds.

I was on holiday not long ago and some younglad was playing Minecraft on his parents' tablet. That would have been £5. He also had a Minecraft hat and he had brought some Minecraft lego with him. I never expected the game to get merchandised like that, I'd put money on Microsoft funding Minecraft roller coasters or maybe an entire theme park in the near future.

Nah, I think it's better than ever to be honest.

Notch may have created it, but he was completely inept in actually turning it into a real game. I remember all the scandals, delays, broken promises, smug twitter posts and other ridiculous behaviour. Jeb and that autistic Brit actually turned it into a playable, and enjoyable game. I can remember when my decent PC would sputter playing it, now it's a silky smooth 60 fps, on top of which tremendous game-play and graphic improvements have been made.

As soon as Notch fucked off, the game became actually enjoyable - but still doesn't mean they should just leave it, there is so much more they can add. I don't expect them to be indentured for the rest of their lives making content, but they should make a very mod friendly platform that people can just add mods as they please with no real effort.

Is the game worth it? I suppose, but it still feels incomplete.

I got this far before being knocked off a cliff.
Yellow are non-PC areas of interest. A is a herd of horses, B is some incredibly thick forest with those giant mushrooms in, C is a pyramid.
1 and 2 are the same as in the previous map. 3 is an NPC village which has been obviously modified by a player character and 4 is a few torches leading into a crevasse which is where I died because I was distracted by taking the screenshot.

I dug a tunnel marked in red (I stumbled into your tunnels while digging and extended the one that went furthest south) down to the place where I'd left the horses. I've returned them back to the tower. Still unclear who was digging at that location and how they got there. There are just a handful of displaced blocks and a few torches scattered around a crevasse.

You can see there are two trees with torches stuck on top of them. The one in the distance there is right next to a pile of netherwrack and a big hole in the ground. There are also at least two vertical caverns that have been explored by someone with torches but who ignored all the iron ore. I can't see any other lights nearby. The nearer lit-up tree in the top image is connected to another tree by a couple of blocks of dirt.
