With the news that the sneaky Chinese are knocking out fake stamps, am I just inept or is there precious little information about the encryption used to make the barcodes? Surely it's not _obscure_?

All I thought when I read about this story is that Royal Mail are so shit these days it doesn't matter what stamp you use, so I wouldn't mind some fake ones myself.

Are we being flooded with fake stamps, or are Royal Mail covering up the fact that their barcode scanners don't work properly?

Did Royal Mail go to shit when they were privatised? Or had they already been circling the drain before that?

I haven't had much cause to use their main services, to me it's always just been the place you go to pick up a parcel or buy your bus pass or whatever it is, and they seem alright at that.

It sounds more like they are being picked up and people fined for it but then it turns out they bought them legitimately from a corner shop or off Amazon. I think I've still got some stamps somewhere - potentially representing £15 worth of fines!

Makes you wonder how long this has been going on and if we've only picked up on it now because we've barcoded stamps. In retaliation we should send some TV licence letters to China. Perhaps have one of our detectors vans do a tour to show we mean business.

Royal Mail was a public-private mess even before the sell-off. It's not made money since the invention of the fax machine and it monumentally cocked up by thinking that ordering things of the internet would never become big business.
