It wasn't by their scriptwriters, it was submitted to them by an aspiring 'comedian' who posts unfunny shit on Twitter like asking why would the teenage girl from Taken be following U2 around on a European tour well over 10 years since others had made the same observation.

I think there's comic potential in Priti Patel gradually slipping into an indian accent so thick it would have been a bit over the top on Goodness Gracious Me, but the whole "wants to be white" angle badly misses the target as a critique or caricature of her politics.

The point should be that she's an evil bastard tory despite the fact she's a full on "you bloody bastard bitch!" street shitting bollywood curry wog, because being a curry wog doesn't matter when you're filthy rich.

Political satire is long dead.

I prefer the Spitting Image version of her where she is a vampire dominatrix. Just a nice thing to think about.

I can see it going down much better on Twitter than elsewhere. And the central conceit, while not especially accurate, could run for years if you wanted to write the same joke every week about the Asian woman who insists that she is white. And the sketch needs to not be fully accurate, because it isn't really possible to comically exaggerate Priti Patel's actual horrid personality. There isn't enough that she wouldn't just genuinely say in real life if she thought it would benefit her.

No it isn't. The government is being very careful to avoid using the "D" word in relation to the Rwanda plan, because that would be illegal. They're being "relocated", which is different to deportation in ways that only Suella Braverman seems to fully understand. On paper, the people being sent to Rwanda are still under the care of the British Government, even if they aren't in Britain.

We are signatories to the UN Convention and Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees. The government isn't willing to renegue on those obligations, but they're doing everything they can to weasel out of them.
