So apparently the earth is travelling around the sun at almost 67,000 miles per hour whilst also spinning on its axis at around 1,000 miles per hour.

Dunno about you lads, but that sounds like bullshit to me.

Is the Sun spinning around anything?

Not meaning to nitpick, but it's only 1,000 miles on the Earth's surface. My old physics teacher kept telling us that to compare rotational speeds of slowly rotating celestial bodies, it's far better to use degrees per time unit. In the case of the Earth, that would be 360°/24h = 15°/h.

Lad, it's like when you're on one of those fairground rides where you're sitting in a pod hanging from a beam along with at least 7 other mugs, and it doesn't matter if the Carney doesn't lock the bar that crushes your thighs properly because when the ride spins and the pods are getting swung around sideways, magical forces stop you falling out (but all the coins in your pockets somehow still do).

The other day I was out on my fag break, and it was a bit chilly, so I perched on the corner of the helipad in the sun. By the time I'd finished my cig the sun had crept far along enough to put me back in the shade of the trees around the side of the field.

I thought, that can't be right. We definitely live in a simulation. There's no way it moves that fast.

If you tell someone you're travelling at 15 degrees per hour they're think you're a full blown mental mentaloid.

That's the thing though. You travel units of distance over units of time, but a body that spins at 15 degrees per hour doesn't travel at all.

Anyone find it kind of sus that all planets in our solar system orbit around the sun on effectively the same flat disc?

I know the orbit itself isn't a perfect circle, but there being no tilt between planets seems almost too convenient.

Wikipedia says this is "likely due to the way in which the Solar System formed from a protoplanetary disk".
