Not sure if sure what advice I can give you except that doing an apprenticeship is most likely better than not doing anything at all.

I am however very curious as to how you found this website as most of our users found us back in 2008 - 2010 and are mostly in their 30s and 40s now.

If I were you I would probably write down the pros and cons of an apprenticeship versus becoming an army technician.

Be as concrete as you can -- what apprenticeships interest you and what could you realistically go for? Would you need to spend anything? What's life like as an army electrician? Do you know anyone that's gone down that route? What about other armed forces, like the Royal Navy?

It's also worth remembering that your time and energy are really valuable to you, especially as a younglad. Contrary to what people say, decisions you make in your 20s heavily impact your later life, so this step should serve some use in the grand scheme of things. What would the armed forces prepare you for? What would an apprenticeship lead you to?

It's also fair to say "I want to try this because I just want to", but then you're basically experimenting. If you're experimenting, then you'd better record the results. Take mental notes of what you like and don't like, then come back and decide again in a few years if you want to try another path or not. If you don't, you'll drift by doing shit you don't like or don't care about, forever.

I've been browsing this imageboard for about 4 years first time I've ever posted anything , i kind of like this place because it reminds of the short time of when i used to find the Internet fun and so on. Going back to the topic i mainly want to study or do stuff with electronics , and i think joining the military will help with this due to the training and bursary option , I'm still doing research like you guys said but I'm considering doing the military full time and getting a degree , for more context i was in the US for about 5 years ,i was going to study at ncstate but decided not to cause i was getting scammed , because of that the raf wont accept my application , im thinking of joining thr raf afterwards if i like the whole military thing if not i can always fall back on the electrical things

Electrical things is a good option, everyone needs electricians and once you have the City & Guilds tickets it is regular/good money. I think for someone in your position an apprenticeship is a good idea, unless you're mad keen to be in the military.

OP here , the main reason I'm so keen on the military is the bursary and school aid option , I'm mainly concerned with getting employment after the military and the possibility of getting sent to some warzone , although the job im looking at for the military (electronics technician&electrician) does sound good , the possibility of danger is always present. Regardless i still have time to decide , although i believe the military to be the best choice and best usage of my time , any suggestions or idea's you guys have is welcome

I think the practical experience of more technical roles is appreciated by employers down the line, and realistically I don't think you're going to be deployed anywhere dangerous if you're in a support role. Anecdotally, I went to uni with an ex-RAF technician doing engineering and he had an easy time getting a decent placement and job, as he had work experience as well as his degree coming along.

14983 Reviving for advice
I just got what I thought was a 25hr a week, part time PAYE contract as a bookkeeper.

Turns out they want me as a contractor, for 25hr a week, but available from 0900-1700 every weekday.

Considering they know I'm overqualified for the job, they want me to implement their app stack, and I have my own clients who I said I'd be keeping 5 hours a week for, how much can I tell them they're taking the fucking piss? And what can I use to counteroffer?

I'm alright going into the office for a few days a week, but this is bollocks and I need them not only to know I'm not accepting it, but also that it's pure bollocks - but tactfully. Does anyone have any expertise in this area?

Depends on the money and how desperate you are. Personally I would just tell them to fuck off and have done with it.

Nought wrong with a lecky job. Just beware that knowing your 1.5 from your 2.5 is not enough, you really need to know your craft. You can do first fix with minimal training, but if you want to make a living doing this it'll take some effort!

Just failed an assessment for driving work that would have potentially paid £20k over 12 weeks. Unfortunate, but at least I have a plan now for how I'll bag this gig next Christmas.
