I know what you mean. I lived in Amsterdam for two years and I wanted to some basic hash to just chill out with; even the cheapest dog-bar crap I could find in an actual coffee shop there was so strong that I literally took a hit or two out of a hash pipe and I was half way to being baked. If I actually smoked any of the weed strains then that was me just sat staring at the curtains for 30-45 minutes until I could move again.
Don't think I ever had plastic in mine, just henna. IIRC actual Moroccan soap bar (like what you get in Amsterdam and Spain) is actually pretty OK. It's the so-called Dogbar crap that goes for £20/qtr that's properly rank.
>>4269 Can't even believe I used to smoke that stuff. Good hash is great, but soap bar - jeez - you kids don't know what we went through in those days.
>>4268 I've herd that about Amsterdam stuff. Always wanted to try some quality weed though but was bothered by how intense it would be. Any idea on what the magic truffles are like?
>>4271 I believe that was proper shite stuff. Called diesel back then because of the way it was shipped inside diesel tanks. So I was told anyway and for what was in it, I was told mostly sticks, stems and leaf. Also pig tranquilliser. Not owning a testing kit so I didn't know. Probably some sort of urban legend.
The internet. It became much easier to learn how to run a hydroponic grow, buy the equipment and get quality seeds from the Dutch seedbanks. If your grow ran into problems, you could post photos of your sickly plants to the uk420 forums and get a fast and informed response. All of a sudden anyone could have a go at growing weed and stand a very good chance of success.
Homegrowers and small commercial growers proliferated wildly, undermining the market for imported hash and weed. The gangs who had imported cannabis either gave up and focused their efforts on class As, or started their own growing operations.
The crap Thai stick disappeared, but so did the good Lebanese hash, because the economies of scale of importing cannabis collapsed. Most of the resin products on the market today are domestically produced super-strength varieties - butane extracts, bubble hash etc.

"Truffles" are just the part of the mushroom that grows under the earth. Due to the Dutch being a bunch of massive autists a technicality of language only the above-ground bit of the mushroom was banned so people started selling the truffles instead. I had a 20g box of Tampanensis for my first go and had a cracking time, but if I were to do it again I'd start with 5g the first time, 10g the next and so on. Definitely don't go all macho bravado and eat a whole of box of "Dragon's Dynamite" or whatever the latest nuclear-grade truffles are though unless you want to spend six hours in hell (or you've got a of experience of this kind of thing).
