Lads, tell me what you know about Grimsby.

I may be moving there for work soon. I've skimmed the wikipedia page and asked a friend about it. She said it wasn't a very nice place, but nothing beyond that. I'm not going to get my head kicked in or get robbed am I?

I used to get taken there for day trips as a kid. Arcade machines and chippies. God knows what it's like 25 years later, but I'm sure it's fine.
I remember the beach being shit. Pebbles, no sand.

Grimsbylad reporting in.

If you're not on a council estate you should be alright. Otherwise you get crackheads riding around on bikes asking for change and the like, don't give them any.
It's pretty exaggerated to be honest.

If you're planning on going to clee for a pissup, don't bother.

I'm not sure if I'm the only resident on .gs but I'll happily answer your questions as best I can. If you've got any more, obviously.

It's shit, however there is an indoor market and a few butchers where you get what is practically a month's worth of meat for £20. Traffic is a bit of a shit going towards Hull on the main road due to the cars being imported into the country via Immingham where the get chaps to drive off.

What's it like near Grimsby Town station? (close to where I'll work)

Thinking of living near Welholme Rd, is that area rough?

Also just had a quick look at the crime map for Grimsby and it doesn't make pretty viewing...But I'm willing to keep an open mind.

Yeah, the pebble beach thing is Cleethorpes. I did get taken to both places, they just seemed to blur together.

I used to do some work for the NHS in Grimsby. It's alright, but all I really remember is a troglodyte they used to employ who would wander around moaning about "scabby fucking windows". It's considerably nicer than Scunny. If it's commutable then I recommend Waltham/New Waltham, but I do like quaint villages.

My family is from Cleethorpes.

Cleethorpes is awful.

Grimsby is worse.

Avoid at all costs.

My Gran was the last of us there, and my Dad and Aunt both independently said that the only good thing that came out of her death was that they'd never have to go to Cleethorpes again. I cannot stress enough how fucking terrible that part of England is.

The station is right next to the high street. It's okay because of that fact and it's next to the shopping centre - freshney. There's an alright spoons opposite the station too.

I agree with >>2837, that area isn't too bad by Grimsby standards but you really should look into commuting from at least the suburbs.

Usually in areas like that you get blokes climbing over fences looking for stuff to nick or exploit.

Try Scartho.

If you don't drive I'd still look into Waltham and New Waltham since the bus is alright. Maybe have a look at Healing? There's a train station linking to Grimsby's.

If you're just looking for it not being dodgy and easy to get to work then your best bet isn't central Grimsby or Cleethorpes.

Grimsby is shite, Cleethorpes is shite, Humberstone(Cleethorpes for people who don't want to admit that they live in Cleethorpes) looks very nice and quiet but its full of Chino wankers.
If you're working in GY massive you'd be better off living in one of the close by suburbs or villages, easily accessible by bus. Stallingborough, Healing, Great Coates (quiet but levels of wankery similar to Humberstone), Scartho to some extent, Waltham, New Waltham, Holton le clay and Laceby (off the top of my head).

Is there much crime at residential areas near the People's park?

The landlord's saying no but the police map says another thing...

When I worked in Grimsby (former NHS lad here) I was told the town had the same level of crime as Hull despite having a third of the population, although I don't know how true this is.

Also, watch out for crazy paving: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2626151/Pictured-Horrific-injuries-suffered-grandmother-74-fell-dazzled-new-patterned-pavement.html

As my time in Grimsby draws to a close, what I can say is this:
Some areas are quite decent, others are ok, the remainder are the depths of hell. The house I stayed in was quite nice but there were quite a lot of kids about doing stupid things outside. Overall, this place is a shithole. I'm glad I'm leaving and I'm never coming back. Plus, the work placement I did was shit too.

Incidentally, Sacha Baron Cohen is doing a film set in Grimsby but filmed in Essex. Apparently, the residents of Grimsby are angry that it paints the town in a bad light...

When I was at Uni I was dating a girl that lived in Grimsby, I went there once and the beach was cordoned off because some human feet had washed up lol
