After having someone drive into my car and then claim it was my fault (eventually the insurers found in my favour, but it dragged on for months) and something similar happening to one of my mates I'm considering getting one. Groupon have one for £14.99 plus £1.99 delivery so I may give that a whirl.
Check out this guys youtubes channel and blog, he has a pretty large selection of very good reviews. He also links to his blog where he has example videos straight from the cameras themselves.
At the very least watch his beginners guide to dashcams here:
http://www.techmoan.com/guide-to-dashcams/
He does review a lot of the cheaper cameras available on ebay, and also some of the more expensive ones.
Don't buy the groupon one, it'll be the same as the masses of cheap chinese clones you can find on ebay for the same price. They tend to be full of flaws, for example they tend to fail in the heat of the sun, even during a British summer. They tend to be pretty poor in low light, or with glare from the sun.
IR cameras for dashcams are nothing but a gimmick, the problem is that the glass completely blocks out IR light. In fact, avoid any camera with LEDs on the front (infra-red or otherwise), they're a useless addition on a dashcam.
One other thing, for 1080p it's a good idea to get a branded class 10 or faster SD card.
>>3301>>3303>>3304 I'm guessing he's probably referring to the data protection act meaning you can't film anyone without their permission, or something.
