>UK-US joint strikes against Houthi rebels 'likely tonight', ITV News understands

>A coordinated military strike between the UK and United States against Houthi rebels has reportedly been authorised by Rishi Sunak and is likely to take place tonight, ITV New understands, following attacks by the Iran-backed force in the Red Sea. The prime minister had earlier on Thursday called an emergency meeting of his full Cabinet to discuss the ongoing situation in the key global shipping route.

>ITV News understands that Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer - who is believed to have been briefed on the Cabinet meeting - has accepted Mr Sunak's decision to take military action without securing prior parliamentary approval.

What do you reckon, a few bombings and then back home for tea?

The more missiles being used by shitty hopeless Arab insurgents, the fewer missiles left for Iran to give to Russia. And any World War 3 that might take place won't last for very long, since America still dominates at war and is fully capable of beating most continents single-handed.

It's now a pretty important containment job to stop what's going off in Israel spilling out into a full on regional conflict. Otherwise I suspect we'd have given less of a fuck.

Besides, got to keep the lads in practice haven't we.

This could have gone in the men in sheds military walt containment thread.

We'll start a war, but we'll lose interest fairly rapidly. Initially clear objectives will become increasingly vague and malleable as they're scaled back to match our lack of commitment, descending into absurd and ultimately meaningless management-speak. We'll incur a lot of cost for no real benefit, because that's just what happens when you only do half a job. Conspiracy theories about the purpose of the war will proliferate unchecked, because nobody will be prepared to admit that we just bottled it.

Maybe we withdraw quickly when we realise our mistake, maybe we maintain a military presence that is too undermanned and under-resourced to do anything meaningful, but eventually the war will end with a whimper and the situation on the ground will rapidly return to the pre-war status quo. We'll return to our default position of studiously ignoring the geopolitics of the middle east until some event forces us to pay attention, at which point the cycle repeats.

You can't "genocide" the Houthis any more than you can "genocide" al-Qaeda or ISIS. Genocide is directed at a people, not an organisation.

The Houthi tribe is a historical ethnic group within Yemen, but the Houthi movement is a political-religious group with a much wider membership. Their unifying belief is that the al-Houthi family in general and Abdul Malik al-Houthi in particular are the rightful descendents of the prophet Muhammad and therefore have the divine right to rule Yemen. As >>41321 suggests, they are broadly similar to al-Qaeda or ISIS in ideology or tactics, although they are at war with both groups. They are certainly not the good guys.

Saudi Arabia have pursued a bombing campaign against the Houthis and have provided considerable support for the internationally-recognised government of Yemen, primarily as part of their proxy war against Iran. All main parties to the Yemen conflict have committed grave human rights abuses and likely war crimes, but there is no clear evidence of genocide - they're fighting for control over a country, rather than trying to wipe out any particular ethnic group.

That might seem like a pedantic distinction, but it's integral to the charge of genocide. No matter how bloody a war might be, it isn't genocide unless there's the demonstrable intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a particular national, ethnical, racial or religious group. We killed an absolute shitload of Germans between 1914 and 1945, but we can't be credibly accused of genocide against them (and vice-versa). The Saudis have at no point demonstrated the intent to eradicate the Yemeni people or Zaidi eskimos or any particular tribe, sect or ethnicity. They're guilty of a multitude of other things in Yemen, but not genocide.

It was interesting to hear that British ministers leaked the UK strikes to the press beforehand allowing the Houthi to disperse. Something that has confused foreigners who think this is some new deliberate master strategy they have.

Fortunately the complete failure of the West to deal with the crisis or have any clear strategy during an election year has been mitigated by our adversaries going back to killing each other as usual.
>Iran says it has hit a militant group in western laplanderstan in a missile attack, its third air strike on another country this week after earlier attacks on targets in Iraq and Syria.
>Late on Monday Iran launched fired ballistic missiles against targets in Iraq's northern city of Irbil, prompting condemnation by the US. Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they struck what they claimed were an Israeli "spy headquarters" in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region. Four civilians were killed and six hurt in the attack, local authorities said.
>Iran then hit targets in Syria's north-western Idlib province, which is the last remaining opposition stronghold in the country, outside of Syrian government control, and is home to 2.9 million displaced people, many of whom are living in dire conditions in camps. Iran's Revolutionary Guards said the strikes in Syria were in retaliation for this month's suicide bombing that killed 84 as crowds marked the fourth anniversary of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani's assassination by the US.

>Britain's tea supply facing disruption from Red Sea crisis

>Britons may have to brave a shortage of tea, one of the nation's favourite drinks, after the supermarket industry warned of a risk to supply from shipping disruptions in the Red Sea. The British Retail Consortium said it had seen "temporary disruption" to some black tea lines, and an industry source said there had been some delays to flavoured lines.

>Although the country's two biggest supermarket groups showed ample supply on their websites on Tuesday, companies have warned in general that the length of disruptions to Red Sea shipping will determine whether consumers see empty shelves in Europe. The warning of delays is the first for a food item, following several from clothing retailers after Iran-aligned Houthi militia attacked ships in and around the Red Sea, slowing trade between Asia and Europe.

>Britain, the world's fifth largest tea importer, gets more than half of its imported tea from Kenya and India, making it dependent on the Red Sea route. Unprocessed tea is shipped into the UK for processing and packaging, helping to make Britain the 10th largest exporter globally, according to the Institute of Export & International Trade (IEIT).

Every one of them will likely get swatted out of the sky somewhere near the Israel-Jordan border. Iran will then wag their finger and go "and let that be a lesson to yous", before backchanneling a preemptive ceasefire. I might be wrong, but this website's anonymous so no one can pull me up on it if I am.

I should probably watch the news while something so momentus is going on, but I'm going to eat midnight cheese-on-toast and watch a three year old MandaloreGaming stream instead.

Bingo. Iran have made a statement to that effect:

"Iran’s military action was in response to the Zionist regime’s aggression against our diplomatic premises in Damascus. The matter can be deemed concluded."

They've made the weakest possible effort to retaliate, in full knowledge that Iron Dome will easily stop a handful of Shaheds. The Ayatollah gets to wave his willy about, but no-one gets hurt.

There's still hope for ITZ fetishists: perhaps Israel won't fully use their defences and let themselves get hit, so that Netanyahu has justification for going after the attackers and he doesn't get Mussolini-ed yet. Exactly the same as last time.

You'd have to show me these "several sources" for me to take you seriously. The reason for Hamas being so successful, for want of a better word, in October was that they attacked during an Israeli holiday and the IDF were more concerned with protecting and enabling illegal settlers in the West Bank. Obviously there's a politcal angle to the IDF taking that course, but that's not the same as Netanyahu allowing Hamas to breach the Israeli border and kill 1,200 people. While I'm sure he has his supporters in the armed forces I'd wager most in the military are as sick as the rest of Israel is of old man Bibi. That is to say a call from the PM's office amounting to "let Israelis die so I can keep my job" would go down like a lead balloon.

No. The situation in Israel is not going to start WWIII, because Iran has no allies other than some daft militant wog groups. Everyone in the Middle East with a proper army fucking hates Iran. If they give Israel a good enough excuse, it'll be a very brief war confined to the pile of glass formerly known as the Islamic Republic of Iran. Sorry to spoil the excitement.

Iran truly is Israel's greatest ally. This time last week even the highest offices of the United States government were murmuring about cutting off arms sales to Israel, in Europe and the UK it was being openly discussed; it felt as if it could have happened any day now. But then Iran comes along, hurls some drones at Israel and no cunt's even talking about the starving children in Gaza anymore, let alone stopping military exports. Almost all anyone in power can do now is wait with baited breath to see what kind of a fit, if any, Israel will throw. Simultaneously they are telling the world's media that they will stand by Israel no matter what, practically a complete reversal of what we were seeing just days ago. No other nation on Earth could have pulled off such a diplomatic coup for Isreal, no one other than Iran. Perhaps this is why Netanyahu hasn't got time for Mr Sunak PM; he's simply too busy gushing about and giving thanks to the Ayatollah.

I guess this is the closest thread for this.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cg300jek94zo

>Israeli protesters blocked aid trucks destined for Gaza on Monday, throwing food packages onto the road and ripping bags of grain open in the occupied West Bank.
>The lorries, which were set upon at the Tarqumiya checkpoint west of Hebron, came from Jordan and were headed to the Gaza Strip, where people are in desperate need of humanitarian aid.

>The White House has condemned the attack, describing the "looting" of aid convoys as "a total outrage".

I am absolutely boiling about this. I don't know why, but I am so much angrier than I have been about any other part of this war. I don't really care when the news says people have died, because that's what happens whenever you have a situation like this, so of course people are dying. The starving children, again, are the same old starving children I always see on the news. But to watch the footage of these fucking psychos stealing food and throwing it all over the road, food that was meant to help the starving babies I didn't care about, has really set me off somehow.

>According to reports in Israeli media, the Tzav 9 activist group were responsible for organising the protest.
>One protester told AFP news agency she was at the checkpoint on Monday because she heard aid trucks were on "their way to the hands of the Hamas, who are trying to kill other soldiers and other Israeli citizens".
>In a statement cited by the Jerusalem Post, Tzav 9 rejected some of the protesters' actions, saying that "acts were committed today that are not in line with the values of our movement".
So it sounds like everyone else is as angry as I am, which is something at least. Even the far-right Zionist group these people belong to wants nothing to do with them. Excellent. Because right now, I fully support Hamas raping and torturing and killing every protestor involved in this. Go full ISIS and release videos of them being burnt alive. Fucking hell. I really am angry.

Everyone has forgotten about the Welsh nationalist campaign of terrorism in the 1980s. Not sure if it was just overshadowed by the IRA, or it's so weird that we all thought we must have imagined it.
