>The extreme sports pioneer Felix Baumgartner, famed for a record-breaking 2012 skydive from the edge of space, has died in a paragliding accident in central Italy.
>The Austrian, 56, lost control of his motorised paraglider while flying over Porto Sant’Elpidio in the Marche region on Thursday and fell to the ground into the swimming pool of a hotel.
I still remember that stunt. It was pretty inspiring stuff, surreal and wonderful to see. If I remember right, somebody set the footage to some Boards of Canada music and it was really powerful. RIP to him.
>But best of all is the nature of the dictatorship Baumgartner proposes: "led by experienced personalities coming from the private (sector of the) economy".
He must have been a raving supporter of Project 2025 and MAGA, then.
Incidentally, he's not the only famous Austrian who has died at the age of 56.
