What's the best supermarket lunchtime deal on the market?
I know I should prepare a lunch at home but I'm lazy, disorganised and when I do cook I'll end up eating it during the night. So I try to eat a healthy-ish meal deal, usually a Sainsburys salmon and cream cheese sandwich, protein egg pot, some fruit smoothie like innocent. Normally I'll also throw in bag of baked fruit like pineapple or mango and of those Whitworths Shots with toffee and pecan so I feel like I've eaten a proper meal.
Yes, I am price conscious too. I'm not shelling out a tenner for a wrap.
Nearly a year later so I need to share my own wisdom:
1. Carrot and Hummus beats boiled eggs because it gets one of your 5 a day out of the way. Eggs are good if you get something less caloric for your main though.
2. Fruit smoothies are a joke, too much sugar and everything just has a base of apple juice because it's so cheap.
3. What the fuck was I thinking with that Whitworths. Just make a 60g snack of dried fruit and nut at home, chopped dates easily take care of a sweet craving.
Can't argue with a fish/seafood main for health but coronation chicken is ace. It would be great to have a salad instead but a lot of places don't even give you the tiny plastic cutlery anymore which doesn't really make sense for a lunch on the go.
How do you feel about meal deals; are they a rip-off that remove the consumers right to choose or are they an indispensable rock of stability for today's slob?
