I just spent over £300 on a pair of jeans.

What's the most you /poof/s have ever spent on an item of clothing? (Not counting suits)

I am quietly impressed by my £4 jeans from Primark.
They look fine, they are comfy and have lasted a lot longer than a £30 pair from Next.

Cheap jeans for the win lads

There is a difference between looking fine and looking dandy.

This is not the fine board, adjust your taste and purchases accordingly.

I've got some of the £10 dark variant and they're actually very nice. I like buying slim fit in a slightly too large waist size for me so they are just all trim but don't cling to my legs.

Aye, good guess. How'd you know? It's a Belstaff panther in 'antique black' leather.

It's drained my bank account, pretty enough to make me weep openly if I ever scuff it, thus it is impractical and largely useless to me. But by God they are pretty jackets. Once my balance has recovered, I'll likely buy a decent looking textile for everyday riding. That is to say, something that I'll be okay with falling over in.

Minor update to this: the jacket arrived today and it is beautiful. I mean -beautiful-. Given how much these things actually retail for I'm considering taking out a fucking insurance policy on the thing, but looking at it? I regret nothing.

Expect another post here in a few weeks where I mash my keyboard incoherently because I lose it/ruin it somehow.

Nothing wrong with spending money on something that is worth it or makes you that bit happier in the long run (if you can afford it). Likewise there's nothing wrong with saving money by buying something cheap (like the primark jeans) if you're happy with them. Often they look fine too if you pick the right items out.

I've seen great looks that mixed super cheap and expensive. USE YER ED FER SUMFIN ODDER DAN FUMPIN AN GIT DOZE BARGAINZ LADZ.

I've spent 200 ish on coats, but I wouldn't really count that either, or anything I've bought to wear while cycling - that shit gets expensive. The most I've spent on normal clothes is probably about 45 on a shirt.

Back on topic, £130 last time I posted, and I believe that is still correct.

About £90 on a leather jacket. Jack and Jones if anyone wants to judge. It's reassuringly weighty and has earned more compliments than any other item of clothing I own.

Tell me about it. Although, someone once scared me (either here, or elsewhere), about them selling fake goods. Entirely plausible given the price they're selling them at.

The main issue is that you generally don't know what you're getting. Best case is that it's out of season. They also sell second-rate goods - made by the labels but to a lower standard than their 'real' products. Then there's the phantom labels, made to sound like designers but actually the equivalent of an own brand. Chances are that any RRP you see there is misleading. When looking at names you don't recognise work on the basis that you might as well be buying George in ASDA. If you're going to shop there, just be sure you know what you're getting, which is not necessarily what they advertise themselves to be.

They also sell "seconds", not necessarily made to a lower standard but can have imperfections such as marking, discolouration, missing stitching etc. The labels sell these fuck-ups on to companies like TK Maxx who then sell them on for significant mark-up on what they originally paid for them.

Other than that, 100% agree with your post.

I'm a bit of a poor cunt so maybe £50 on jeans or a new coat. If I had a job, I'd probably go on a bit of a spending spree down the shops (or from my desk). Haven't bought new clothes in ages and I need to update my personal brand. Not sure what to go with yet, trends move so quickly in the last 5 years. Like when you were teenlads, you don't want to be just getting into scene when everyone else has gone hipster.

If you were going to say "b-b-but I don't follow trends! blah blah too cool for that blah blah fashion sux" then don't.

Well following the trends is pretty much the only important thing in life. Anyone without the latest "in" brands is pretty much a non-person who should be scrubbed from the earth.

I believe a large amount of it is also overstock. Stuff which is either sitting in a store and they want to get rid of it to make room for the new seasons stuff, or goods bought on a long lead time which have just got into the country but have nowhere to go in any stores.
I believe that with a lot of stuff coming from china now, that the latter is becoming more commom, it's easier for large retailers to just buy more than they need on the off-chance that some will be late.

This is all very interesting, of all the stuff I've bought, I've been more than happy. It's a pity clothes don't have an indexing system, where you can just whack in a model number and review if they indeed are genuine, last season goods.

I know I know, with some you can do that, but generally 90% of clothes made, the history of their origins is forever lost in the ether.

I saw some 1000 Mile wolverines, for £80 - and I was bowled over seeing as they are normally £350. I did some research, and I could never find the exact model, even when they have a limited collection and range. You know what I mean; They have a set range of products they've stuck to for decades, and rarely introduce a new looking boot to their repertoire.

Definitely makes me thing something fishy is going on.

I bought a Burberry jacket today for £75 I thought it was quite a good deal but then I saw there are tonnes of nice Burberry jackets on Ebay for less than £100.

Come to think of it, the most expensive item I've personally bought is probably a city jacket for not that much more. I'm cheap.
