When did this site change it's style and cease being used as a typical imageboard? What was the catalyst for this change?

Were we not also a typical kusaba-looking chanboard years ago before purp developed brian? I have vague memories of this place before it looked like it does now.

I just assumed from the dates, that by 2009 that .gs had succeeded Britchan, given that .gs has threads dating back to late 2008 in >>/test/ .

So when exactly did Britchan die and how did it's userbase find .gs?

Can't remember exact dates when britchan died, but the two ran parallel for a while (at least a few months). This place was generally more helpful, and had the feeling of a slightly older userbase, whilst britchan was more anarchic and faster-moving if I remember rightly. Lots of us used both sites, so when britchan eventually died we migrated here permanently (after a time in the wilderness of krautchan's /int/ board for the hardcore britchan loyalists if I remember correctly - /iq/ was partly created as a sanctuary for them, I think).

Didn't the two run parallel while britchan was being ddos'd to death and was over its monthly bandwidth limit half the time? I vaguely remember that being britchan's demise although to be fair I don't remember a lot of those years and my imagination could be filling in the details for me.

Yeah, that sounds about right (though as was probably clear from repeated 'if I remember...'s my memory's hardly crystal clear). I think that was when people started using here and /int/ when britchan was offline, before the final death due to YubYub's incompetence and lack of funds (and >>12965's sabotage, it seems).

Anyone with a fully-functioning memory is actively encouraged to chip in at this point...

On the subject of shit .gs memes, does anyone know if Nepal Lad (originator of the Pie Master forced meme) escaped death during the Nepal earthquakes or is the cunt still around? Been away from the site for a looooong time but i remember when it was all over the news my first thought was "I really hope Nepal Lad is dead"...meant to come on here and see what was going on but, you know, too busy with actual IRL stuff

I'm not sure there is anything sadder in this world then a man who would pretending he lives in Croydon. Is not living in London really a worse stigma than living in Croydon? Just admit you live in Surrey, not London, and move forward with your life lad.

Croydon is beautiful, a lady friend of mine lives there and I always feel so futuristic going in. And that lovely octagonal tower with the lights that change colour. It is quite dream like. She's going soon, I'm a tad sad. Reminds me of my hometown too.

Come to think of it, maybe she pretends to live there?

By 2050, 60% of Europe will be described as London by estate agents. When overcrowding on a Ryanair flight from Gdansk causes the death of eighty commuters, Boristron Prime orders the construction of several hundred Routemaster Airbuses, with an open door at the back to allow passengers to alight by parachute. To relieve congestion on the Eurostar, TfL start a pedalo hire scheme. A vast shanty town in West London covers most of the area formerly known as Wales. UN peacekeepers are deployed after a turf war between drug gangs goes thermonuclear.

So only around 40 years behind the low cost airlines and airport operators then? I notice the operators of Kidlington airfield, north of Oxford have branded it "London Oxford Airport". I look forward to flying into London Tees Valley in future.

None of which really changes the fact that Croydon is in London, and has been since the 1960s. On the same note, the residents of Bromley can stop pretending they're still in Kent.

I've been telling them, mate, but ultimately we're going to have to wait for the previous generation to die along with their misinformed ideas before common sense can prevail.

I'm trying to work out the timeline of Britchan's demise. So it went down for good early Feb 2009, but it also seems to have gone down in oct/nov 2008, which sparked the ceration of /uk/ on Krautchan, is this correct?
