Trying to browse .gs on mobile has always been akin to getting fisted in the urethra. It's about time we stepped into the 21st century and embraced our shiny, web standards-upholding overlords. I'll even chip in if you like.

Push the commented codebase to GitHub or BitBucket and I'll take a crack at it.

I've been pestering the dev for a simple JSON/whatever API in these threads for years, as that'd make any mobile/whatever app a piece of piss, but no dice.

Also now that the EFF are sponsoring free SSL certs for all and Google have put out an SSL library that probably isn't Swiss cheese, what exactly is keeping us from using https:// ?

Let's Encrypt won't fully launch until September. Getting and using a cert is currently a right old faff, but once Let's Encrypt goes live there'll be no excuse for serving over clear HTTP.

Does .gs not accept encrypted traffic? I could have sworn this was resolved a couple of years ago, I had no idea.

Nope. Also, offering HTTPS isn't good enough - you need to default to it, everywhere, always.

On the upside, I wouldn't be able to waste time on here at work because of our SSL-enabled proxy. On a completely unrelated note, more banned should provide SSL. Finding decent proxies when the usual suspects haven't pre-baked one is a pain in the bum, or so I'm told.

Am I missing summat? The mobile site's fine for me, especially considering how it was a few year's back.

On my devices (Chrome on various versions of Android), there are a couple of showstopping bugs. Font sizes scale completely inconsistently, so posts are often unreadable. The reply box is completely broken - it often appears outside of the viewport, and the page scrolls every time you enter a character. I'm sure there are other bugs that I can't recall right now.

You're dead right. I've actually mostly rewritten the HTML already but have left that code languishing for months. I don't want to make further promises that go unrealised, but please know I care massively about this site and it really does bother me to think how much I've neglected it. In certain ways the neglect has genuinely harmed the site. I wonder if there'd be a few more posts if mobile was a pleasurable UX. I hate how our sometimes brilliant content gets lost because we lack a proper archive and I'm frustrated by the lack of an adequate search feature.

Here, why don't I gift myself a little incentive to pull my finger out. There are a couple of reasons to think significant progress will soon be made, though I'd prefer not to share them. I appreciate that you've all been patient with us for a long time, but please give us just a little longer.

>>13125
No. Incidentally there is no version control and no testing environment. That's actually one of the main things holding me back. It's no fun coding on production and the prospect of wrestling the codebase under control doesn't fill me with excitement either. But that's a poor excuse. It has to be done and it won't take all that long. Watch this space.

>>13126
Come off it. Doing it without a proper API would take a seasoned dev just a few hours longer. Maybe if you did show us up like that we'd have no choice but to respond.

>>13128
You have to look for the little yellow padlock, mate.

>>13131
It's clunky everywhere. On some devices it's usable and on others barely not.

>I hate how our sometimes brilliant content gets lost because we lack a proper archive and I'm frustrated by a lack of an adequate search feature.

I personally think the lack of an easily searchable archive is a good thing. I like the fact that posts disappear after a while, it's one of the reasons I enjoy imageboards and also I why I think they work. If there's an easy to access record of everything it becomes less fun and I'd also maybe go so far as to say it might affect what people post, at least it would for me.

I understand the sentiment as there has been some absolutely great stuff that's been lost to the depths but for me that's just a part of posting on an imageboard, I've always felt archives go against the very spirit of them. Also bits and pieces do get saved it just tends to be in a really ad hoc manor by the users and then they pop up randomly when someone posts a screencap or brings up some half remembered in joke or whatever, which I kind of like.

Just throwing my worthless tuppence in, I'm obviously only speaking for myself, feel free to utterly ignore it.

A decent mobile site would be lovely though.

Why do people always post stuff like this in these sorts of threads. It's like reading from neogaf.

If you think browsing is difficult, try posting.

The post box gets covered by the keyboard so you can't see what you're typing. It's a shame there's no way to move the post box. I know it can be programmed because I've seen it on other sites.

Editing text is an absolute nightmare.

Please fix it for us Uncle purple.

The workaround I use is writing the posts in notepad or whatever, and pasting them in. A bit of a faff but a godsend for longer posts.
