You just slide it over the affected area and blast it with a hair-drier, or a heat-gun. The plastic adheres to the broken wires.

If you have decent soldering skills I second this. The Grados are meant to be fairly easy to get open.

I've got the SR80s too, and my cables are on the way out I think.

They're glued together, but it's hot melt glue. Warm the cups with a hairdryer or in a vegetable steamer and they pop open easily, no tools required.
