I need to replace the chord in the Strimmer. Do strimmers take a specific type or are they one size fits all?

The one in the pic isn't the one I have.

Each strimmer generally has its own type/size/cartiridge matching the brand you own - is that a Black & Decker something? Guessing by the colour - if so, any garden centre or store like B&Q/Homebase will sell it.

My dad's old strimmer had generic wire, though I think there might have been various guages and you'd want to make sure it fits the holder thing.

Then again the one we kept in the shed at The Caravan was a really dodgy one where it took these little plastic things that only had a certain fit, and the bloke at the strimmer shop in the nearby village was the only place you'd get them. Everything at The Caravan was dodgy, like going back in time to a world before standardisation.

Check the old cartridge, if you can't find a cartridge that fits you may be able to thread a new wire into the old one.

You can buy strimmer wire in bulk, it comes in spools of up to 100 metres. Which will probably last you a decade, depending on your strimming habits and the size of your garden. But a spool of 15 metres should be plenty for one strimmer that you only use occasionally.

You can buy generic trimmer line and rewind the old head. Expect to pay about £5 for a 15m spool. You'll want 2mm or smaller line for an electric trimmer - lines thicker than 2mm are for heavy-duty petrol trimmers. Smaller line sizes are better for cleanly trimming light grass, while the thicker lines are more durable for hacking back dense weeds.

Assuming you're talking about the cutting wire and not the power cord, the rotating hub bit should pop off quite easily. Just take it apart and replace the missing wire with a length of fishing line.

Can you tell by this shitty photo what gauge this is?

Your machine will take a range of sizes, so it depends on what you're cutting. I'd suggest 1.6mm for light garden use or 2mm for clearing heavier patches of weeds. If you need a replacement reel (the black bit that clips off), you'll need to search for the make and model of your strimmer.
