How do I find a good computer chair in this day and age? It's a lot easier said than done as many chairs you see online either won't last owing to obvious design flaws or are simply not ergonomic. And everything is labelled as ergonomic.
But 8 months of heavy use between working from home and being an internet person meant the back soon broke. At the moment I got a cheap and cheerful that has stellar reviews on Amazon but also is too short for a computer desk which rather defeats the point: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Devoko-Gaming-Computer-Leather-Ergonomic/dp/B0BW7BZ661?th=1
I'm going to have to shell out serious money aren't I?
Seriously though. how big are you? I'm 17 stone; my £80 Argos deskchair has lasted 2 years, it was literally on its last legs (and wheels) when I posted about it recently in one of the general threads.
I'm thinking about using a wooden dining chair but it'll probably be too cold and uncomfortable.
I tried the dining chair route when I was forced to skivework remotely during the coof, and it was absolute agony after two hours. I ended up getting one of those laptop lacterns that act a bit like a hospital bed meal table so I could work recumbently. Now I'm as massive as that lass up there.
Have a look on eBay or Facebook Marketplace for second-hand commercial task chairs. Something like a Humanscale Freedom, a Steelcase Think, an Orangebox Ara or an RH Mereo would cost you about £800 new, but you can regularly find them for less than £150 in excellent condition and you can often grab them for stupid money if you can collect in person and you're willing to haggle. The build quality is in a completely different class to gaming chairs.
If you really want something rugged, look for 24 hour chairs - they're designed for environments like police control rooms where the chair will be continuously used 24/7 for years on end.
Be sure, do you want a chair that you can *dwell* in or a chair that will support you? Herman Miller is still the gold star if you want it for work not living. I mean that. A couch is better and make it work!
Your chair should support you, once you found it that's silly.
If you need to sit down, demand a proper chair with adjusment advice. If that's not on the cards, get a Herman Miller something (possibly not Chayr).
