5312 Graduation and all that shite
How much wedge have 2014 graduates of .gs ponied up for their robes? I've just been mugged of £45 and I'm not even sure the hat's going to fit. What a fucking racket.

Why the fuck are you even going?

Fuck me, if your surname is to the back just do what my dad did, and turn up ten minutes before the end in motorcycle leathers then fuck off to the pub.

There's no chance of that at my uni, they've choreographed this thing to the minute. You're locked inside the hall until everyone's done the grip and grin, and you have to be inside by zero hour or you're turned away at the door. Further if you've not got the right rags on (rented from the uni-approved company) you'll be turned aeay also.

I'm only doing it to gratify my parents, I'd have graduated in absence by choice.

I just told me mah that I wasn't going to do it. She then admitted that not just my father, but me mah as well, had not told their parents about the ceremony.

Really? If his surname guarantees he will be the last person to pick up his certificate, why waste valuable living hours and money to stand in a hot, sweaty hall when you can have a very good idea of when your name will be called, and just stick your head in to pick up the sheet of paper and fuck off back to the pub?

I never could go to university.

At AS Level I got 3 Es and was told that it would be impossible for me to go anywhere good. I'd have to get straight As at A Level in order to then average the grades out to just 3 Cs. We all accepted this was never going to happen.

So I retook the AS Level year ... only to get 3 Es again. At least, I thought it was 3 Es. I thought I'd been consistent ...

Recently learned that the second time round I actually got 2 Es and a U.

My whole life is lie.

You don't need to feel useless just because of A levels. Academic study isn't for everyone, you can get far in life from practising a useful vocation or trade.

Just don't be complacent with being a wasteman manager at some shitty coffee shop/retail place, having a properly useful skill is far more admirable.

Yep, same here. I remember exactly why, the cunt marking my oral presentation deemed it wasn't good enough when I couldn't understand her thick German accent.

Like I've said, uni's are artificially difficult - they have to follow the bell curve and make it seem as if the course is hard by marking like utter bastards. Deplorable to say the least.

I'm pretty happy with my result, my uni put up with a lot of bullshit from me and were ok with me suspending in my second year due to depression and coming back. I owe their staff a lot. Just a bit miffed that I've missed out on doing something I know it was in me to do.

Do you lads think I could get away with forgoing this bullshit next year without it being a massive faux pas?

The thought of my parents, teachers and fellow classmates all intermingling is stressing me out more than any assessment I've ever had on my course. I fully imagine I will throw a tantrum if I have to spend all day doing this bollocks.

I think all universities in this country will let you graduate in absence (ie not turn up). The 'graduation' ceremony is really just a dressing up party with no real reason for them existing anymore.

I became a broker. Though would rather not reveal in what industry - Anonymous and what have you. Worked harder than I'd ever done in my life and was able to 'make it'. (About 50% of the young people at the company I went to didn't/don't).

Have moved around a little bit and been really unlucky in the various jobs I've landed, in various ways. Now having taken some time out to enjoy life, I'm trying to get back into it.

My industry fell to pieces after the 2008 collapse too and hasn't recovered. It's not the greatest time to get back into things and I might have to take a pay cut but my head is in a good place again and you can't put a price on that.

It's not my "passion" but it's a job, one that I've made a good enough impression in to hopefully land me another one soon.

Despite my terrible exam results, I'd like to think I'm a fairly sharp cookie. My post with the Dunce picture was meant to amusing more than anything else.

pic unrelated?

Regarding that image, aren't most folks done with fashion by the "married with children" era of their lives? Don't they spend all their fancy pants money on artisanal beers? What's wrong with walking on pavements too? I like not being hit by cars, it's mutually beneficial.

So it seems in order to be truly free, you have to be unemployed, sit on your arse, never love, never reproduce, look like a tool, get hit by cars, not even own a TV, get arrested and die penniless.

Well shit, sign me up for that.
