I was just having a conversation with a German and a French person the other day and they understood me, then we had a laugh about how we have fought each other over cultural differences for 1000 years, and how absurd Irish independence is because all white people are identical.

Don't be offended lads. It's okay. It isn't like the average white person can tell the difference between a Nigerian and a Ghanaian. They are all black. So why is it weird for the same to apply in the opposite direction?

Just because a European person can't tell the difference between a Nigerian and a Ghanaian doesn't make them identical. I admit I wouldn't be able to either, but I'm sure they have vastly different cultures, languages and possibly even racial makeup. And if Africans do have an easier time of telling Europeans apart, that might be more down to white cultural imperialism.

I know almost fuck all about Africa but I wouldn't be so utterly ignorant as to declare the entire continent 'the same'.

>Jeremy Clarkson Rejects Offer To Return To BBC After Asked By Director-General To “Come Home”

>“He was saying the other day, ‘Oh, come home’. But the truth is, you’d struggle on the BBC now. It’s so unbelievably right on. You just couldn’t say anything which I make my living from saying.” In the same interview, he accused the BBC of being very limited in their show production, and having a closed mind for new ideas. He also slated the BBC by stating that they’d freeze out presenters that aren’t politically correct.
>“I think it is becoming very, very restrictive, which is a shame, because it [the BBC] is a good idea,” he said.

Like everything Clarkson, it's a bit of both. His public persona is just an extreme version of his private one, as far as I can tell. He's probably not the biggest fan of the BBC, but it fits his show persona and his newspaper opinion piece writing to call them communist totalitarians.

Jeremy Clarkson set to be CANCELLED by ITV and Amazon Prime after Meghan Markle comments

Jeremy Clarkson looks set to be cancelled by ITV as well as Amazon Prime after his comments regarding Meghan Markle.

In an article published last month, Clarkson wrote that he had dreamed of Meghan being paraded through British towns and publicly shamed, adding that “everyone who’s my age thinks the same way”.

He said: “I hate her. Not like I hate Nicola Sturgeon or Rose West. I hate her on a cellular level. At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, 'Shame!' and throw lumps of excrement at her.”

On Monday evening, just hours after the apology was issued, a press conference due to take place on Tuesday to promote Clarkson’s Farm was pulled. It was also reported by Variety that Clarkson's Farm and The Grand Tour would be pulled at the end of their next seasons. ITV looks set to follow in Amazon’s footsteps after they said they had no “commitments” to recording future episodes of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

I was inclined to stand up for Clarkson when his un-PC act was actually funny, but he's lost it nowadays so I don't give half a shit.

That said, it is funny how this time, the remarks everyone (read: nobody in the real world, just social media arseholes and journalists) is outraged about were about a woman who's married to literal royalty, you couldn't be punching any more vertically up if you tried. I don't think he said anything the rest of us weren't already thinking, his crime was that he said it, while the rest of us know you don't say that-sort-of-thing.

Like... I dunno, is it just me, or does it always seem like the thing these people usually end up actually getting "cancelled" over is pretty benign compared to the rest of the shit they've said and done over the years? Like it matters a lot more who you say it about than what you say. Know what I mean?

We do have a problem in this country with saying what we really think, for fear that somebody will take offence. Regardless of how a silent majority really feels. Especially when it's some kind of opinion that objectively isn't nice and could make you look like an irreverent, disrespectful cunt in some people's eyes.

That, and Clarkson's particular style of irreverence has sort of massively fallen out of favour the last couple of years. I don't like the "old white man" angle that no doubt many will now try to frame it as, as I am an aging white male myself and resent being lumped in with people like him, but he truly is a dinosaur who shouldn't be allowed near a TV camera anymore. Being a flippant arsehead was fine, or at least didn't do much harm, while he was still belittling underpowered French hatchbacks or overpriced Mercs on Top Gear, but he's well beyond that now.

It doesn't change my opinion that he is a shit human being, which is why I wasn't reading him in the first place.

The "political correctness gone mad" branch of comedy was a great laugh 10-15 years ago when it was new, but we've had so many years of people telling the same jokes over and over again that it's lost all humour.
There's only so many times people like Clarkson can say "oh oops you're not allowed to say _______ anymore" until _____ stops being and joke and starts being their actual beliefs.

Thing is it's neiher politically correct nor politically uncorrect to say you hate Megan Whatserface though, is it. Loads of people hate her. Loads of YOU hate her, and you have said so.

Like him or not he's only being pilloried because someone spied a bit of an opportunity to get one over on him, playing the idpol card for somebody who is literally royalty. Sorry, but that doesn't carry with me. I'm willing to bet it would have been a total non-story if he said the exact same thing about almost anybody else.

>you couldn't be punching any more vertically up if you tried.
I think it's because he said he wanted her to be stripped naked. Then, it's not a standard act of aggression, but a sex crime. And you know what women are like. They hate sex crimes and the threat thereof. They can't understand that it's just a hypothetical, because they have tiny inferior female minds and also it's a genuine threat for almost all women, and statistically, many of the outraged women will have been victims of sex crimes themselves at some point in their lives, and reminding the other ones that they are not truly safe and that it could really happen to them at some point is a fucking terrible way to tell a joke. If he just called for Meghan Markle to be pelted with rotten fruit and dog shit, without any gratuitous sexual angle, I'm sure he would have been just fine. I would have expected a professional writer who has made millions off skirting the boundaries of offence to understand this, but I guess he's just a total fucking retard.

Either way it's really a stretch to claim reading Jeremy Clarkson (which let's be honest, does any woman even do? It's a bit like me complaining about something I read in Teen Cosmo) compare Meghan Whatsername to that bit in Game of Thrones where everyone yells "SHAME" brought them out in a fit of collective hysterics that needed a nearby gentleman to bring out the smelling salts and fan them with his jacket.

Call me a male fisherperson but it's shit like this that makes women seem like unreasonable mentaloids and leaves me instinctively skeptical when they actually are upset about something. Nah, I don't think it's fisherfolk, I think they just jumped on the bandwagon. It's just bog standard character assassination because Clarkson (and think about it for a moment, it's Clarkson) went a step too far picking on the royals, and he needed a smack on the nose with a rolled up newspaper.

Reposting here from a thread I made on /pol/ because I was kindly directed here.

Clarkson could be axed from Grand Tour after the comment he made about Megham Markle. I think the comment was very sexist, so why does this bother me?

Is it because they're doing it under pressure from Harry and Meghan have said he is spreading not just misogyny (fair) but 'hateful rhetoric and conspiracy theories' without any actual evidence to back that up, and their legion of fans who agree with them despite also being the ones who compain about the Royals and their privilege but clearly like celeb worship more?

Or is it because they only got on the SJW path after it affected them personally and not a jot before?

Or is it because Harry's bringing that down after ONE comment, when he was the one who wore a Nazi outfit multiple times, and has now said 'I'm really sorry but also Wills and Kate are partly to blame for egging me on I was only 17' and his fans aren't bothered by that?

Oh well, at least there is some more criticism now after the book came out. She clearly ramped up her victim status (to be fair though, in revenge for the victimisation she DID get, but there's no need to overegg it).

Sigh. Plus I'm just so sick of all the rants from rich people about who was more dishonest saturating the media and taknig away from Uncle Fest... er, Andrew and what he apparently did.

And fuck Jez for his misogynistic comment and making her a martyr for another round of bullshit too

Big companies don't like bad PR. Sacking someone is almost always cheaper than dealing with a huge media shitstorm. Clarkson has weathered this kind of thing before and he'll probably weather it again; either Amazon will quietly re-hire him after this has all blown over, or someone like Netflix will sign him for a seven-figure deal.

I'm old enough to remember when big scandals and sackings like this were usually about someone being gay or doing coke. The media was (and is) full of coke-addled bumders, it was all totally hypocritical, but if you got caught then you had to take one for the team. There was no principle involved then and I'm sure that there's no principle involved now; senior executives at multinational corporations don't believe in anything apart from making money.

The narrative now, of course, is that Amazon believe saying something quite nasty about a member of the royal family in a newspaper is sackable, while decking people that work for you is excusable. Though given how Amazon treats its employees we shouldn't be surprised.
