21207 Black Mirror season 3
How has a thread about this not been made yet?

My brains just about managed to survive the first 3 episodes but it's so incredibly fucked up. Episode 2 in particular legitimately 'triggered' me to the point I came close to having a full blown panic attack.

I don't remember any of the stuff in the first two seasons coming close to these new episodes in terms of quality or brutality. Though I suppose the Christmas special was a sign of things to come. I'm guessing now that Netflix have taken it up it's got more resources and Brooker's perhaps taken less of a role in production. Either way his screenwriting abilities seem to just be getting better and better.

I wanted to watch, but don't have Netflix. Will download at a later date. Glad to hear it's still relevant and horrifying.

I've found the new series quite underwhelming so far. The first episode felt like they'd phoned it in and I had to switch the second off because it wasn't maintaining my interest, although I'll try it again later. Definitely doesn't seem as good as the previous episodes.

That may be a filter, or it may be that being exclusive to VOD means they can do things they can't get away with on TV.

Massive episode 2 spoiler below.

I was just thinking about the second episode a while after watching it and remembered how he gave the toy to the kid at the beginning... I remember how I kind of joked to myself that the guy was a nonce, but I assumed he was just a good guy who was being nice. I imagine Charlie is commenting on how it is difficult to distinguish between someone who is a nonce and someone who is nice to kids, but it's almost as if he's suggesting that we should be cautious about the latter. Wonder if him becoming a father has anything to do with it...

Also, was Mindy supposed to be a kid too? The fact the woman was done for a racist email means they weren't all gone after for being nonces, so I guess only the nonces had to fight to the death?

I found the first episode dull.

Haven't watched any more yet.

I wasn't sure if it was just the trolls saying it for the lulz, especially as he only went to bash one out after watching the women in the music videos. Have now finished episode four, was more touching than I'd expected and the first one in a while that's actually had me wondering where it was heading.

It reminded me a lot of Ubik. Honestly all the episodes I've seen seem quite derivative.

Just watched episode 2.

Actually found it pretty good, ending was a bit predictable I thought. I did find the concept rather creepy, at least when it was being explained to him by Gook Wan in the office up until the point where the guy appeared in front of the stairs. Wasn't that creepy beyond that point I didn't think. I did find myself more involved in this episode than I have in films or TV in quite a while though.

I feel like a lot of these episode spoilers are being listed as the wrong episodes. On what I'm looking at:
Episode one (Nosedive) began with phone ratings.Derivative of Meowmeowbeanz
Episode two (Playtest) began with a man on a plane.Ubik, as well as that Adventure Time episode about psychic worms and the X-Files one about giant fungi and fuck loads of other similar stories.
Episode three (Shut up and Dance) began with a young man working in a fast food place."It's not just another complicated story about blackmail, this is original because CP and computers and stuff!"[spoilers]
Episode four (San Junipero) is set in an 80s American beach town. [spoiler]I haven't watched it all yet.

Am I getting these in the wrong order?

The final two episodes dragged a fair bit and felt that they could have been covered off in much less time, although in my opinion episode five had the best concept of this series.

I think one of my issues with this series is that it has been too American. I know half the episodes were set in Britain, but the second one had an American lead.

I'm finding it a bit yawnworthy. I like the fact that Black Mirror exists, and the technocynical/whatever angle, but find it generally a bit boring. I never really give a shit about the characters or what happens to them.

It all feels a bit heavy handed. Usually you can figure out the entire episode in about five minutes. It seems like the sort of show that could be described as clever or mindblowing only by those who have never read a book.

With the final episode I don't think they were even trying to entertain, grab your attention or provoke thought. It was simply Charlie's wank fantasy revenge over anyone that's said a mean thing about him online.

They've added a choose your own adventure style interactive film to Netflix. Suppose I'll give it a whirl sooner or later.

It could be an hour and a half long livestream of a saw mill and it'd still be better than anything in season 4.

I hope they've come up with something other than the whole consciousness uploaded to a computer thing. Bandersnatch was alright, but not exactly very Black Mirror-y.

Smithereens. Best one of the series, but it wasn't anything special.

Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too. Shit. Utter shit. I did kind of like Miley Cyrus covering Nine Inch Nails at the end, though.

This isn't the first time i've attempted to extol the virtues of Miley Cyrus and it likely wont be the last. But the girl is ridiculously talented if you venture beyond the radio friendly pap. She's done an awful lot of side work and covers etc that really show off her pipes. But people just think of Wrecking Ball and twerking.
