Vice literally played it self in that article. They made themselves look like out of touch 1moralising cry babies who can't handle take a joke or handle awkward situations.
I remember a thread we had before where OPs position was, 'why can't the left wing take a joke' and the general consensus was it used to be not that long ago that the right wing and the actual reason is that if you are taking a moralising high ground you can't take or make a joke.
As soon as you become that moralising you surrender the middle ground of moderation and open yourself up to being criticized for being absurd through jokes.
Sounds more to me like Dave Chappel's just trying to cash in on the whole manufactured controversy marketing angle. A bit late to the game, too. I'm already sick of seeing threads about it.
You have to put this in the context of he is a person who got very badly burned by Hollywood to the point that his angle for a long time has been 'this industry will use you and destroy you psychologically' and that Lewis C.K is his good friend.
To him this is an extension of his 'how awful the cult of the celebrity is' narrative.
>>22853 >Oh, my God, I don't care. I don't give a shit! Leave me alone!
I don't know what circles you move in because this is the first time I've discussed him in ten years. There is always the hide button if he triggers you that much.
>>22855 I mean this sodding Netflix special. Every online media outlet is talking about it, it's like he's been cast in a flipping Marvel film or something.
>>22856 He was hyuuuuge a decade (well, 15 years-ish) ago and it's the first real thing he's done since apart from a bit of stand-up. I'm not surprised people are talking about it really.
>Every online media outlet is talking about it, it's like he's been cast in a flipping Marvel film or something.
If this is the sort of thing the online media sites you visit are all talking about you really have only yourself to blame for reading virtual TV mags.
Are you upset it got in the way of your usual tawdry gossip about which Hollywood star might be pregnant?
>>22856 >Every online media outlet is talking about it, it's like he's been cast in a flipping Marvel film or something
I've seen one, not overly prominent, article on it in the Graun and that's it. I think you may be consuming too much news and convincing yourself things are a really big deal when in reality hardly anyone outside of journalists gives a shit.
You are a basic bitch
You drink starbucks pumpkin spice latte
Wear Ugg boots
You feel like reading 'eat pray love' really helped you grow.
You read about celebrities lives and what they are wearing.
You think the fact that you like Marvel movies makes you such a nerd.
You sing along to 'don't stop believing in the club's which you know from watching glee.
You probably pull that 'really good value' face from adverts when you realise how many loads you can wash with this new washing powder and how much you save next to the leading brand.
You Are Basic
It wasn't his best but it was still pretty solid. Decent anecdotal commentary on the waxing and waning of Hollywood celebrity culture, cancel culture, and other cancers of the modern world.
To claim Dave Chappelle is "anti-woke" is laudable. The article - and many others like it - don't even touch on his lampooning of the hate crime hoax that was the Jussie Smollett case. Writers like Taylor Hosking live in blissful ignorance and hold fast to their beliefs of a false dichotomy between comedy and commentary where there may be no moderate middle ground.
