Why do British people care so little about Canada? I don't think I ever heard Canada be mocked by our comedians, especially how they love to mock our former colonies. Hell, most people I know don't even know Canada is an English-Speaking country that was colonized by the British.

That being said, I also notice that Canadians tend to hate us with a burning passion. Why do you think this is?

I've never heard nor got that impression. I personally think Canadians rock.

Are you sure you know where Canada is? The image you posted has the outline of Australia on it.

I'd rather sex with a Canadian than an American. I'd rather more sex with an Icelander or Finn.

I wouldn't know. I'm not downmarket enough to shop at Sainsbury's. They don't do such nonsense at my local Waitrose.

Sainsburys is middle class grub at middle class prices.

Waitrose is middle class grub at upper-middle class prices.

You are paying more for the same grub, anyone who was "upmarket" would know that. No one stays flush by spending frivolously, you nouveau riche cretin.

Canada just isn't interesting enough to take the piss out of. Your only well-known cultural exports are slightly embarrassing pop singers like Céline Dion, Bryan Adams and Justin Bieber. That's not enough to sustain a joke.

Even when your American neighbours take the piss out of you, the only national stereotypes they have to fall back on are your milk bags, your politeness and your pronunciation of 'oot'. The Aussies, the Irish, our continental neighbours, they all have clear cultural differences that can be stereotyped for the purpose of humour. Canada is just too bland and unremarkable.

Surely the stereotype for Canadians is that they're Americans but without all the annoying American bits.

There's also nothing to be gained from belittling them. They don't hold a position of emotional importance for any part of the population. People don't know enough about the country to all have common cultural/social references. It's a bit of a surprise for such a close cultural country (Commonwealth, English-speaking, NHS style policies), but doing jokes about Canada would have the same understanding in a British audience as jokes about Botswanans or Surinamese.

Having a pop at our old rivals (the Scottish, French, Americans) or our current sporting rivals (Aussies) is very satisfying and makes you feel smug, as well as a rich vein of content.
