For me it's hard not to empathise. The way Are Jim knows it's about to kick off and his slightly dopey missus doesn't really take him seriously. The way he tries his best to prepare with what little he has and just ends up having to hope for the best. The way that even as he takes the doors off and paints his windows white, he's still sort of acting as if it's not real, it's a bit of a laugh.

I had never read this before. I remember I tried to track it down probably 15 years ago, but I wound up with the film on DVD so I watched that instead and it wasn't really the same.
