Yesterday I dropped another therapist. My experiences so far:
Somebody who tried to sell some karma chakra bullshit.
Somebody who tried to sell me EFT tapping (complete crock of shit)
A Christian one. 'nuff said.
Last but not least, somebody that believed in the "law of attraction" and advised me to think about good things to magically attract them.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there any way to get a non-bullshit therapist? Do they even exist? Is there any way to speak with a therapist that does not believe in magical bullshit?
Maybe I should just speak with a priest or a mullah. At least, their bullshit is forthright, not hidden.
I called a mental health helpline once when my mom was in deep psychosis and verbally threatened to physically hurt my girlfriend. One of the first things that person said on the phone (older woman, possibly in her 60s to 70s) when I said that I had a live-in girlfriend was that that kind of thing was "a sin in the eyes of the Lord" because we weren't married. I then said, what does that have to do with my mum saying she wants to hurt my girlfriend, and she said, "I just wanted to establish that before we get into your problems".
>>31533 Churches, mostly. Where else will you find communities who'll organise to do that sort of thing? Your Warhammer or car club won't even consider it. The homeless shelter I volunteer at is entirely staffed by the local churches with the exception of myself, an environmental activist and a retired firefighter.
>>31538 >>31536 >Private therapist accredited by BACP
Oh, I see.
A service specialising in your issue may produce greater results than apparently entry level BACP practitioners - I found a promising link a few months ago, but seem to have lost it, i'll take another look.
Swing and miss, m8. Sex is the last of my problems. By the way, those were NOT entry level. They were all BACP practitioners with decades of experience.
That makes perfect sense, from a retarded Christian point of view. A Christian (or any other religious person) sees God and Religion as way more important than the problems of a person. That's the main difference between philanthropy and charity: the former is for the good of man. The latter, for the glory of a God. From her point of view, your sinful living with your girlfriend was a more pressing problem than your mother trying to kill her. It's the same way of thinking that allowed religious people turn a blind eye when priests or imams raped children. As I said, a completely retarded point of viey.
>>31540 I took a look into the BACP certification requirements which looked as though you can gain accreditation from as little as 3 years study at a cost of under £20,000. Judging by the type of people I've know who've expressed interest in developing counselling skill, coupled with your anecdotes regarding, I use 'entry level' to mean a practioner who's interested in managing peoples emotions rather than prompting insight into your issues. IE the kind of person who's practiced in giving placebos and little else.
If I recall correctly you're troubled by sexual abuse from your past, yes? As far as I understand, 'psychosexual therapy' aims to treat everything from erectile disfunction, sexual abuse and troubling sexual behaviours.
Unless I've completely misunderstood, it might be worth investigating seeing as you're currently meeting limited success.
The 'promising link' mentioned earlier unfortunately remains lost, though should I find it again I'll post here.
Thanks, but my problems are not sexual. I lost all my libido years ago and I do not miss it, especially because nobody would be interested in having sex with me without financial incentive. My problems are more related to a job in a corporate environment.
>>31546 Huh, I really thought you were >>/emo/30213.
I'm sorry for shitting up your thread.
It looks like the industry must be full of new-agey 'bollocks' - doesn't bode well for my intention of seeking therapy.
The last time I mentioned I was a Christian here I was thoroughly mocked. (albeit somewhat amusingly) And I think the reason why is because most people who aren't religious are only exposed to Christians when they're walking through a town center and some preacher is handing out leaflets with a megaphone shouting about Jesus. It's a bad look.
Nonetheless, understanding it explained in a reasonable manner, rather than by a cult following ideological type grounded it for me. It's a big part of my life, reading and writing. Nothing is ever published or posted of course, but going through the breadth of theology and philosophy and writing about what I think in an attempt to understand being, and consciousness, has been nourishing for the mind.
Buy yourself a journal, or just open up a notepad and start emptying the brain every now and then. Sometimes I like to tackle a particularly difficult chapter of a book and argue with it. This works for me whenever I have had the blues or whatever. I'm unaware of what ailments you have, but I have never been diagnosed with depression or anything of the like. But if It's of any use, give it a try, and if your attention span has been ripped apart by too much screen time, I'd recommend starting with a relatively short and easy book and working your way up; picture related.
>>31549 If you're the tradcathlad you were mocked for being a facist-adjacent weirdo who thinks people should be preached to in a langauge they don't understand and that the euchurist is literally transformed into flesh and blood when you snarf it down. We just don't have time for this kind of bonkers nonsense.
>>31549 >And I think the reason why is because most people who aren't religious are only exposed to Christians when they're walking through a town center and some preacher is handing out leaflets with a megaphone shouting about Jesus
That seems a remarkably naive thing to believe. A significant proportion of this country is Christian and actively religious. You're not a hidden sex cult.
No, but feel free to link me to one of the posts, that sounds like an entertaining read. >>31551

Where exactly? I have lived in several different locations within the UK and church attendance is down, especially as I have aged. What's worse is a lot of people who call themselves Christian don't even know some of the basic tenants of the religion. Not that I ridicule anyone over it, but It's very noticeable. Even when I lived in London for work for the best part of a decade, the churches were quite empty. The most religious people I met were immigrants, African or Asian of various kinds. Very few English Christians attended.
For the record, I'm aware that the number of Christians in the UK is in the millions, but the population is several tens of millions larger, and so It's not a stretch to assume someone doesn't know much about Christianity.
You're around. The only actual statistics I can find agree that, while church attendance is down, more churches are opening than closing. We actually have more churches than we do pubs. More churches than supermarkets, post offices, bank branches and libraries combined.
Yes, that was me (with a different IP since I live somewhere else). I am amused, I never thought that somebody would remember my threads.
>>31549 This is for you. Try to have the lyrics translated:

To all the others, thanks but the problem is still there: where can I find a therapist that is not full of bullshit? I am quite sure that it is a professional requirement.
Yeah so I read through those lyrics, hardly Wordsworth. I never understood the whole gothic dress thing, I can shrug it off as a phase when It's a teenager, but fully own adults, looks a bit embarrassing.
I don't know if you're planning to respond to it but in light of the post above I'm going to politely ask that you drop the subject and perhaps avoid this thread entirely.
I recognise you said the problem isn't sexual but, for reasons I hope you can appriciate, I urge you to at least email this organisation about the difficulty in finding a reasonable therapist as well as your current and past issues. The worst they could say is "Sorry, we don't deal with that" - but I suspect they will, and I sincerely believe addressing your past and how it effects you currently can improve your wellbeing.
